God damn it, you've got to be kind.
The first four shots didn't make me feel poorly enough to want to take a day off, but my 2nd shingles shot did a number on me. Once I recover I'll be getting my fifth COVID dose and flu shot.

The covid shots haven't affected me too badly (minor side affects for the first three), but the second shingles shot I got Monday morning messed me up until today. I'm going to split up my next covid and flu vaccine to try and spare myself intensified misery.

I've been lagging on getting my bivalent and flu shots so I signed up for next week. I got derailed by how bad my 2nd shingles shot was but I am BACK IN THE VAXX GAME.

Still need to get my tetanus shot though.

Got my bivalent booster on Tuesday and had almost no redness or pain. After that last shingles vaccination this is most welcome.

I have to take a road trip next week to visit my elderly sick parents. Neither is vaxxed. I'll be wearing my mask at any stops, and when I'm staying with them for a couple of days. Anxious about even the slim chance that I might give them something that kills them.

Despite the tumult we've all been through over the last few years due to conflicting covid recommendations I wanted to take time to thank all of you for continuing to contribute to this thread. We're all struggling with this ridiculous bullshit problem that none of us created and none of us can fix and I appreciate the comments and feedback from everyone who is trying to find their way through this mess.

I despair of the U.S. public health system ever recovering from this. There's just too much money to be made and power to be grabbed by attacking our institutions, and clearly a significant percentage of the population is willing to make that message part of their identity no matter the personal cost.

Got the bad news that my sister in law is sick and tested positive, and the additional bad news that despite this my brother is still going to fly tomorrow with their kids to NY for their spring break vacation. I mean... stay home! Tend to your sick wife, be vigilant for signs that you and your kids have also been infected. That should be the priority.

I don't understand people. In so many ways.

My brother started feeling sick before they left for the airport and has cancelled the trip. I hope that he and his wife recover because there's no way that I can support them and our parents.

I had to visit a hospital today and was surprised to see large signs on all their doors that masks were required, and a security guard was turning people around so that they could get a free mask at the door. Over the last six months I've been to several hospitals and most were almost completely mask free.

At my last physical I got the TDAP because I had no recollection of ever being vaccinated for tetanus/whooping cough. I turned down the series of hep shots because I have none of the risk factors.

I'll get the COVID booster at some point, maybe when the rush eases up. My risk is probably very low.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I had to take a 3 hour bus ride, then drive 6 hours with my elderly and sick parents, then spend several days with them shuttling them to medical appointments and finally catch a flight home. I was masked the whole time but I know that it's still a dice roll.

I scheduled a flushot at my local CVS and their website said you don't need to schedule Novavax because all locations had it. When I arrived they were out of both vaccines and said that all the regional CVS were out. They had Moderna and Pfizer but said that both expire this week and they recommended that people not use them.

I rescheduled at a different CVS and this time selected Moderna but I can't tell if 2023-2024 means it's the monovalent or not and when I called and asked the pharmacist didn't understand the question. He also said that he couldn't guarantee that either vaccine would actually be available for my appointment on Monday.

I feel like the system remains completely broken. I've had to fly multiple times, spend days in hospitals and my mask is the only thing I have to protect myself. I will have to keep flying for weeks and months to come and it's incredibly frustrating to get constant reminders that we're all on our own in this infectious disease crisis that literally will never end.

My father was invited to dinner by neighbors. I don't think he's socialized like that for years. I had to remind him that he's 86 and unvaccinated and that there's significant risk spending a couple of hours around a table with people. He can make his own choices but I reminded him that if he gets sick I'll have to get on a plane to go take care of him.

My mom was scared of pretty much everything, and my father has had many allergic reactions to medications so she was unwilling to let either of them get vaccinated for anything. I did my best to change her mind, especially once COVID arrived but her fear was too great. At the least they both wore masks when they left the house (which was rare) and when I visit him I wear a mask. I don't know if he'll ever be willing to get vaccinated but at least he understands the importance of being masked when he's around people.
