Snow days are just poor people's take-your-kid-to-work day. Eliminating them is praxis.

EDIT: Shameful :synpa:

Quite a lot of students in the US don't have snow days at all, ever, and somehow manage to get through it.

who cares, they don't have to deal with getting around during the lovely snow. if they want snow days they can live in a frozen hellhole like the kids that do get them

They will have more summer vacation. I don't like hot weather but I'd have hated missing out anyway.

drat right. the stress of having to rush out of the house to sit though another day of hell instantly evaporated and was replaced with hot cocoa and video games. the best ones were where the school was closed for an entire week

we had some psycho superintendent during my first year in high school though who bragged about not calling snow days, so there were a couple of days where the school was still open despite an ongoing blizzard with buses arriving 2+ hours late, one of which slid downhill into a ditch and had to be pulled out, half the teachers couldn't come in and every class was watching a video because conducting lessons with half the class and/or teacher missing was pointless. i guess he retired after that year because they got a new guy who didn't pride himself on almost getting kids killed in bus accidents

nah chill
I went to NYC public schools and I don't see what the big deal is as nyc never never never ever calls a snow day, ever. Can someone explain to me what the big deal is?

I think maybe there was one after a blizzard in 94 and I think some days for hurricane sandy, but that's it.

I know those boogie westchester bitches have them all the time, but nyc just does not. There's no tradition of kids F5ing or listening to the news/radio for your school to close because you always already know you're going.

I remember one year we had 13 actual days of school in March because there was so much snow.

This was in the Maritimes, a place with some of the highest unemployment in the country. Probably correlated.

We once had a snow day in college so we all drank a bunch and sledded down hills on stolen cafeteria trays.

We also did that when it wasn't a snow day, but the snow day made it special.
