Agreed. Why even talk about this trash when this could be a place to talk about Mr Show - the only sketch show I know that has not aged poorly.

No, just that SNL has gotten more addicted to weekly topics. I still get most of the political and current event references from the 90s and 80s episodes. The ones from the late 2000s and early 2010s are somehow more obscure. Remember Christine O'Donnell? She never actually won an election but still got her "I am not a witch" campaign commercial parodied in 2010. Which was funny at the time, that month, for the types of people that were addicted to cable news networks to begin with

The State is still funny and Kids in the Hall will always have great stuff... but

SNL is not a sketch show, its a 'variety' show (Lorne's own words). Most of the modern funnier writers have gone off to do their own things, like Tim Robinson.

SNL, to me, goes through good and bad phases as with actors and writers. I do fondly remember the late 90s/early 00s cast, even Jimmy Fallon was kind of funny. Having Justin Timberlake as a recurring guest was weird at first but he was in some of the funniest sketches. They're definitely not going through a good phase right now, even if they were, the Elon Musk episode single-handedly crushed that. It was so bad.

Kids in the Hall is the best thing Lorne Michaels ever did.

beck bennet, mikey day, and alex moffat would individually be the least funny member in a show that should be leagues below SNL, like a modern-day mad tv reboot would be

I could accept one of them being on the cast to be the unfunny white guy, but all three of them suck out loud and because they're the main honkies, they're front and center in everything and again

they suck a lot

SNL is mostly an exercise in sifting through the crap to find some good comedy in there. It's a real slog to watch it on Saturday as it airs but thankfully they put each sketch up separately on YouTube so you can skip a lot of garbage and just watch the stuff you like.
