I went back and watched the first season of MadTV- it's brilliant. The show gets stuffed with filler and loses performers and quality as the seasons go on. Although later there were the Bobby Lee years which had basically a whole new cast (besides Michael McDonald who was in every season), which got pretty good again and there were some particularly good female performers. I didn't even know the show went on for 14 seasons because I missed the last half of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf8fB7DUSkg Pontificating Ass fucked around with this message at 06:08 on May 18, 2021 |

SNL definitely sucks but 1 out of 10 sketches will be someones jam. This will confuse some people but SNL definitely sucks. "But I remember a few sketches that killed me!" they say, but it's a handful out of a bucketful. Always has been, always will be. I for one lose my god drat mind to this Bill Hader sketch when I see it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO9Fk2mjhbw

What's really actually funny about SNL is that the head of the show, Lorne Michaels, sees himself and acts like some sort of media god, who can make or break a mortals soul and career with the uncaring wave of his hand.

He can if you plan on being anywhere near NBC. As bad as the Tonight Show is, it's a required slot for promoting whatever animated poo poo show movie a celebrity is starring in. You will rarely find a comedian that will bad mouth him as that means they would likely be blacklisted in the industry. Some of the hottest sitcom writers from the last 15 years are SNL alums so he's still got some pull in the industry. Harry Shearer is the only person in modern times I've heard that will really cut into him and is highly critical of how SNL works. But that's Harry and he's got 20 years of "I'm on the Simpsons so gently caress you" money.

snl sucks but i was randomly watching it one time and it was the one with 'chronic of narnia' aka the first lazy sunday short , it was just incredible. like this shining star of humour and originality emerging from the emptiness of the humour vacuum around it. it was kind of interesting that you can put something funny in the middle of a bunch of bland garbage and it can't disguise itself, you immediately know 'that is funny' despite being conditioned to expect it not to be

Will Forte owns, Lonely Island owns, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett own, Tim Robinson own. SNL sucks. Really a lot of comedy people dream of being on SNL, but SNL snubs anything that isn't current politics. Take the Papyus skit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVhlJNJopOQ that was condemned to 'web skit'. Any real comedy is put on the back burner at SNL.

SNL is a show that's a lot like a big log of poo poo mixed with pearls and undigested corn. You can pick through it for the pearls, but some people are gonna claim those pearls are corn and vice versa. For example, I love David S. Pumpkins because of the absurdity and that it manages to tell you the punchline and still catch you by surprise with it (when he scares the hell out of McKinnon and Beckett). Some people won't. I also love the Brothers bit between Kyle and Beck because it reminds me of growing up with my little brother, and we both like mimicking the dances whenever we're together. I can see why others wouldn't like those skits, though. Also, Bobby Moynihan owned, and I miss him on the show. Bogus Adventure fucked around with this message at 13:42 on May 19, 2021 |
