Queen's The Miracle. Not their greatest song ever, but the kids playing the band members are on point. The kid playing Freddie out-Freddies the real deal.

gently caress you beat me to it! My absolute favorite song

The KLF - Justified and Ancient
I just learned of The KLF like maybe a few months ago via this video, completely wrecked. loving blew me away, all their videos are fantastic

Redbone - Come and Get Your Love
The transition from the intro to the song is so smooth

Donald Fagen - New Frontier
I never pegged (heh) 2021 being the year I got way into Steely Dan but here we are. Anyhow, Fagen’s solo work is absolutely worth a listen though I’d have loved a video for The Nightfly

Laurie Anderson - O Superman
Ever see a work of art and go “gently caress I wish I made that”? That’s this

I love the video to Laura Branigan's Self Control (1984), directed by one William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist, To Live and Die in L.A.):

e: also for comparison, here's the video to the Finnish cover of the song, Viet itsekontrollin (lit. "You take my self control") by Leena Vanamo from the same year:

Here’s Neil Young’s gently caress you to his record label. IIRC His label was forcing him to make an album he didn’t want to make so he did the most unhip thing at the time, a doo woo album. The video has him shuffling around all disheveled and unsexy because he didn’t want to make a video either. But 10 year old me thought it was cool as hell and I loved the song and had no idea who Neil Young was.

Always liked this one and how they were able to cram a complete narrative in without really saying much.

Really I'm a big fan of any music video that effectively tells a short story or does something interesting and creative instead of just "here's the artist(s) performing or dancing plus whatever random imagery we came up with." I feel like you can typically tell when a music video had drive and inspiration behind it and when they just crapped something out because they were obligated to.

e: oh, you said "old". Well, it's almost a decade old now.

Not terribly old but the band was never popular. After the 80s-90s MTV era was over, putting effort into videos seemed pointless since who's going to watch it. I love this little movie.

No problem.

Speaking of old forgotten videos - Back in the late 90's there was a cable tv channel called The Box which aired nothing but music videos with the hook that viewers could call a 1-900 number to request videos that they wanted to see. Being viewer controlled it lead to a much wider range of videos than what MTV typically showed.

One of the weirder music videos I remember seeing on it was an animated one that had a super hero theme.

It featured a goofy looking super hero and his sidekick who were battling against a villain, who, if I remember correctly, was a skinny diaper wearing baby-man who was also a DJ.

I have no clue about what the band or song name was, or if it was even any good, I've just always been curious to see the video again if anyone has a clue what I'm talking about.
