Clyde Radcliffe posted:I remember this being a popular Amiga demo. How they got it running almost intact on a C64 is tbf it only took like 15 years lol but yeah its insanely impressive! found a couple quotes from the creators about how they did it on poüet: quote:Thanks for the positive feedback. Really cool to see so much positive feedback. It also justifies somehow it worth the serious effort we put into this project. As for the motivation from my part behind the reamke, JAC! already told it perfectly. We didn't make this to cheaply win at Bp or something like that... I wouldn't care if Oxy wins with their demo they would deserve it. quote:hi there. thanks for all the kind words. i expected massive feedback like this but wasn't aware that even my music conversion job will be marked in such a way. =) thanks again! some people asked about the player... apart from the hidden part tunes *hint hint* which were made in goattracker, all demo tunes are composed in the somewhat faster driver 6 from laxity/MoNs sidfactory. thank you thomas for implementing some requested stuff for your favourite bugger! you see, i even didn't use the most powerful player around and also had to deal with some out of instruments/effects issues so the result could have been even better. however... one last word to all the "originality" whiners. we have been involved in other more original releases but this time, we took the challenge to do a remake and believe me it WAS a challenge in every aspect! WE KNOW it lacks on the originality side of course and it's a bit pointless to tell us we should stick to original demos, really! for me, not only focus or fairlight demos are good and i think it's the different demo concepts that makes the scene so colourful and this also includes a remake if it's well done like in the case of desert dream or simply a traditional hardcoded oxyron demo without proper concept. ;-P the worst comment came from dane (I'm quite sad to see such a positive hype over something that is neither original nor filled with extremely hard stuff). sorry stellan but this was dissapointing and even sounds a bit jealous - but of course you are not, maybe it's the words that are chosen in a clumsy way. hugs to kefrens, the C64 DD crew and all downvoters, i love you! =) /fanta https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30213 also lol at saying its unoriginal, way to miss the point

I forgot this thread existed and should have posted it here, so here's a repost:quote:Was anyone here into 90s Amiga mods/trackers/demos? I'm trying to find a dance/techno track that had a vocal that said "What. Is. Love". It wasn't sung, it was said as 3 separate words. Not Haddaway or Howard Jones samples, either. Someone located the vocal sample I was thinking of: Flipperwaldt posted:Like the sample on the beginning of this? Take the first 30 seconds of that, but for that riff after the vocal, make it way harder and bassier.

tried searching a bunch of .mod tracker catalogs for "what is love" but i only found haddaway covers unrelated: There's a Danish tv show called Troldspejlet (the magic mirror, a reference H.C. Andersen's Snow Queen), it's been on the air for like 35 years (or idk it's maybe a podcast now?). Anyway, in the early 90s they used to sign off with a segment called Pixels where viewers could send in the stuff they'd made on their home computers. Lots of weird Amiga animations by teenagers & occasionally some neat demoscene stuff: A couple episodes cued to the segment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-7PwQIpT8I&t=1074s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGNtnzQN3rQ&t=948s e: also check the badass intro @0:01 Carthag Tuek has a new favorite as of 16:35 on Jul 29, 2022 |

Nice I love demo scene stuff, I didn’t even know what it was until not that long ago when I was reading about media molecule and one of the guys who started the company, Alex evans, got started with programming and cg etc through demo scene stuff. don’t really know much about it still, but I enjoy watching random stuff on YouTube. Mostly posting so I remember to check this thread later.

I wasn't into the demoscene pretty much at all but I'm still incredibly impressed by .kkreiger. It's a whole-rear end 3d FPS in 100kb! It's not a great game, but it's a functional game that I could run on my 2002-ish Dell. It still blows my mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lctkgyVtao I found this mini documentary last year or so about it, as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD1wWY1YD-M

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHXx3orN35Y This one continues to be my favourite because of the obscenely weird hacks needed to pull off things like a 1024-colour mode on a composite CGA card and 3D software rendering on a 4.77 MHz 8088, and the heavy use of rapid arpeggios in the music to try to make your brain hear chords out of the PC "beeper" speaker. Also the credits using using some neat CPU-driven timing code to rapidly oscillate the speaker to produce ADPCM output is extremely cool. Kazinsal has a new favorite as of 11:06 on Sep 19, 2022 |
