We had to do 2 years of Latin at secondary (non public) school, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you if we did Ecce Romani or whatever the gently caress. After 2 years we could choose whether to keep it or drop it and I think it was almost universally dropped. On school trips, my school bought a house in Britanny for 1 Franc so they'd ship kids over there most summers. I remember we went to a French school and were supposed to go home to a French kid's house for dinner but a bunch of us bunked off and got caught buying porn in the local supermarche. If you want to see how the private student loan situation is going look at Erudio. There are years and years of examples of them loving over students after they bought their loans off the government, including all sorts of shady behaviour.
