People have machines and poo poo that can do work for enough of us that some of us don't have to do anything at all and get paid for it. Normally we call that being a rich person but what if we redistributed all of that extra money so those of us who feel like not doing anything at all still had money for snacks and videogames.

That's a world I want to live in.

I've tried not working at literally ever job I've ever worked and it doesn't work. Maybe for like ten minutes at the most and then people are all like "why are you sleeping in the refrigerator"

The vast majority of homeless people are not there by choice.

I do respect the right of people to live outside if that's what they want to do I just don't think it should be my job to provide food for them.

If they're not there by choice then your solution is what? Like "oh no, sorry you have to live outside that's just a weird side effect of a system that doesn't need your labor but it's just not my job to feed and house you oh noooo so sorry"

just lmao at the idea that the cause of a person's homelessness is the litmus test for whether you think they should be allowed to live, and also that the answer is always no anyway

the concept of unemployment is a very funny one.
"you lost your job? oh poo poo, but do not worry the system has provided you with a safety net that will help you in this time of need, so long as you demonstrate that you are seeking work"
*seeks work until the unemployment income runs out*
"oh no, it appears gently caress you"

paying people money for work has effects, but not paying people money for not working also has effects. not paying a homeless person money for not working has different effects than not paying a rich person for not working. the difference is why rich people are paid even though they don't work while the homeless are not paid.

yeah but they did that while being at their place of work

which happens to be at home due to covid which weirdly didn't have any ill effect on the company's profit margins

Not profit margins, but rich people who own office space are freaking the gently caress out about the loss in value of commercial real estate. How much money in the retail commercial space market? Billions? Trillions? Everyone is going back to the office whether they like it or not.

I have a solution that can please everyone.

What if we give 'not working' a job title. Like "Individual human fulfillment manager" and pay it whatever the minimum basic living wage is. There, now you're not paying anyone to be lazy, you're just paying another government employee.
