Of course it wouldn't be a David Cage game if it didn't drop some porn on us that no one asked for or wanted.

Usually in games like this when you get to take over some piece of heavy fighting machinery that's a high point, because you can cut loose and do some damage. Also like... I love how the entire station does not give a gently caress that one of their battle robots just went insane and blew up like a dozen of its brethren. I would be unsurprised if anyone ever notices. Also also I love how clearly the "girlfriend" just does not react to being told you're just puppeteering her boyfriend.

the start-of-episode shorts are hilarious. Also, man, this game is so much wasted potential. It could easily have been like Hitman or Deus Ex, but with conventional stealth mechanics replaced with acquiring "disguises" by stealing/borrowing bodies, with demons as a sometimes food that could sense your "soul" through the body you were possessing, perhaps summoned by the Evil Regime(tm) when they start realizing some supernatural terror is on the loose, ruining their plans. But then again, "wasted potential" is David Cage's middle name at this point.

Soks is absolutely the best NPC so far, that robot is great.

mortons stork posted:That cut mechanic sounds like it was for the best to be honest. Like, already it's pretty uncomfortable what you do, but leaving behind a trail of probably horribly traumatized and scarred coils you successively shed once they outlive their usefulness, while prolly not even examining what those people went through? Ugh. I mean, it could possibly have been interesting if you also had an option to help people you were possessing, rather than just like... puppeting them, leave them with something beneficial rather than a bunch of new scars and injuries. Give you some moral/ethical choices and stuff to you know... add anything to the whole possession mechanic beyond it just being a mechanic. Also the editing work keeps getting better and funnier with every episode. Deeply loving it. PurpleXVI fucked around with this message at 11:31 on Jul 2, 2021 |

I did not expect Dead Man Walking scenarios.

Wait, so the shops have like... useless ingredients that you can buy, for spells you can't mix, because the other half of the ingredients don't exist in the game? That's comical.

Kind of interested to hear that I'm not the only kid who had problem with FPS games because they made them nervous. Also yeah, Omikron would've benefited greatly from not snapping from gameplay type to gameplay type, but instead just keeping it all in the same control scheme, like... Deus Ex, which released barely six months later with considerably less wank involved. Hell, just make it Deus Ex with funny clothes and a possession mechanic and you've already made a pretty playable game.

And here I was expecting some sort of cool prison escape sequence. Fool me for thinking Cage wouldn't gently caress something up for once.

That stripper looks like one of those Parasite Eve 2 near-human creatures. Also cool to see you're exploring Omikron out-of-bounds speedrunning tech. Be sure to show us your world record run! PurpleXVI fucked around with this message at 19:03 on Jul 15, 2021 |

I'm actually surprised they dodged the "dead man walking"-scenarios involving "losing" the necessary body for a given quest, but unsurprised that they then implemented a "dead man suffering"-alternative moments later.

I don't really have any good comments on the latest episode, just... so many baffling decisions... but your great production values are, well, great, again!

Cool how you're now a two-year-old savage cave woman shooting ghosts with a policeman's gun.

davidspackage posted:Going over the gameplay one more time would've helped more. Integrate the three gameplay modes together more, have the reincarnation mechanic actually matter. On that, I'll concede that the game was too ambitious for 1999 and being a studio's first game, but Quantic has yet to show that they could realize that potential with their current team and tech. I'll disagree here, because it was only halfway through 2000 that we got Deus Ex which was 75% of the way ot being what Omikron should have been, gameplay-wise. All it needed was a "steal bodies"-mechanic and some decent fist-fighting and, frankly, that was probably the hardest part to do, because we didn't get good first-person melee combat until 2017 or so. Maybe it had more to do with blowing half the game's budget on a superstar musician tie-in than what was technically possible. Frankly I'm kind of amazed that Omikron was on 3CD's. Deus Ex covered about as large a world, all areas combined, but was only on one CD. Was it just all the voice acting? The music? Or were they terrible at actually compressing their data?

By popular demand posted:Hey Purple I'm not gonna argue FPS melee since I know very little about it but which game are you referring to as being the first with good melee in 2017? Is it DOOM? Honestly, the first first-person game I ever played with really satisfying melee combat? Dead Island. It felt like hits landed, it felt like you had a decent idea of both your own and enemies' reach, etc. it was very satisfying until the end where enemy HP bloat made it feel a bit floaty. I was expecting someone to come in screaming about Dark Forces' lightsaber combat, personally. Marshal Radisic posted:There's also Zeno Clash from all the way back in 2009. Zeno Clash is good, but the combat DID feel a bit floaty and disconnected at times.

Man, I can't imagine anyone else making this an actually fun experience to watch. Thanks for the LP! I think what strikes me most, in the end, is how little they actually did with the "player is from another dimension"-framing mechanic. Like... all it really contributed was a reason for the player to be able to hop bodies(which could just as easily have been explained by a magic spell) and giving the player an excuse to ask dumb questions about extremely basic things about the world they arrived in.

I think it also really depends on what you're looking for. Streamers are for something to run in the background/to laugh when someone sucks at a game. Video/screenshot LP's are for when you want an informative/narrative experience, streams can be fun to watch, but I'll never budge from my opinion that "classic" LP's are where the talent and effort are.
