I'm impressed by the insane amount of money and engineering that go into these cars and have no idea how anyone ever gets involved in a sport where a 10 car pile-up can cost northwards of 100 million dollars

My dad and one of my brothers are super into racing so I appreciate it but don't care that much. Honestly probably like racing more than I like any other sport, but sports never clicked for me, my wife drags me to games God bless her.

Zeroisanumber posted:I'm impressed by the insane amount of money and engineering that go into these cars and have no idea how anyone ever gets involved in a sport where a 10 car pile-up can cost northwards of 100 million dollars the only teams that can anymore are manufacturer works teams or funded by billionaires or global brands because the complexity and cost of the technology just passed what can be done without those kind of resources, the top team budgets are in the high hundreds of millions per year, Mercedes spent over a billion on r&d for their 2014 car iirc the cars dont cost that much in terms of materials tho its mostly r&d + labor and they can reuse stuff like the carbon safety tub after crashes unless they're really bad, so the cars getting broken doesn't really matter much the really expensive and overly extravagant cost is the 150+ people each team flies and ships to 20+ locations around the world a year complete with a bunch of bigass luxury RVs and poo poo like that, they could spike a car into a wall every day for less money
