Lady of the Lake was just some Elf, ultimately.

Old World is never coming out. Certainly not in a way that will be more than a few posts in the specialist games thread.

Yeah, the players should not be aggressively lovely like in this story. If you don't like the premise, don't play the game?

Giants canonically drink to excess so they don't feel the cold, so you are good to go.

All right, I guess I'm sold. I'll give my SCE stuff to my friend, start on my Kruleboyz stuff from Dominion and think about Cities of Sigmar when their new stuff hits next year.

With Dominion costing less than a start collecting online, it is pretty much fool proof.

I mean I don't exactly think that they bust out of the ground fully formed or anything, so it's safe to assume there are female Giants as well as male ones.
The rest is just GW being GW.

They are both born and also sometimes they are just generated from the earth. High Fantasy can get weird!

Running sub optimal stuff is perfectly fine unless you are going to a tournament and taking it seriously, or just have a toxic rear end local meta.

Like many games, just paint a variety of cool things and have a good time. It can be worth keeping an eye on the larger meta just to make sure you are not playing something abysmal but to start just build and paint some factions Vanguard box and go from there. 1k points is a fine place to start with AoS.

The new Stormground RTS has redesigned Liberators in it, maybe they'll make it a do-over of the first edition starter with new sculpts for already-existing units?

This I could get behind.

with any luck Skaven will be in the edition launch box

This big FEC launch just makes this more likely!

With the popularity of Vermintide, it seems crazy not to do Skaven. A new troops box for each of the Clans, and some new Rat Ogres would get lots of people to start the army. And as a horde faction that's just more boxes those players need. Win win.

Soulbound is really fantastic for short one shots and campaigns, but unless everyone becomes Wizards or Priests it is a bit boring. Overall a game I quite like, but I feel like keeping it to what feels better for helps.

Do people here just not know about the very good AoS app? Rulebooks are cool and all, but once I get the code out of the back I would never take it to a game again. And it has the warscrolls for everything for free, so it covers most of what you need to know about other armies.

The "modular rules" thing seems a bit contrived, because some rules (like fight and probably movement) need to be wired into the core rules. Which is fine. I don't think anyone is looking for fight rule modularity.

Everyone is just going to play with all the rules all the time, except maybe in some kind of beginner teaching game.

Things being in discreet chunks makes them easier to update or change later on? That is all the impact I think modularity has.
