The Falklands 2 parter really stuck with me, with his description of a company attack at night without night vision, against a dug in enemy of equal or superior numbers that starts off through a minefield.

Just absolutely mental and somehow ends in success.

I haven’t got there yet but that sounds fascinating. Their interviews are fantastic, I especially liked them describing the hidden shelters in west Germany they’d have to build and hide to call down artillery strikes on a red storm rising invasion. I liked how proud they were after they’d be dug in and a VIP visitor would be standing on top of the shelter with no idea they were there.

Something I wonder about is they mentioned infrared was a big concern about concealment, I wonder if Soviet search dogs would have been effective. Dunno if they cover that in a later episode. I checked iTunes and was surprised they only had five reviews, I promptly gave them another five stars.

Radio War Nerd is either doing or just wrapped up an AMAZING series about the civil war. An rare unapologetic pro-union take that explores a lot of stuff that's not addressed in most education or popular civil war history, such as the conflicts in the western theater, the evolution of the Northern strategy, and internal conflicts in the north between slavery-sympathetic elites vs the left wing of the Republicans and how it explains why the North self-sabotaged the war effort and reconstruction before and after the war. RWN is subscriber only but you can get most episodes for free on podbean.

Also everyone already knows Chapo Trap House but this episode about the Liberal Driller was hilarious:

Thanks for radio war nerd recommendation, I’m learning a ton about the civil war. Did not know how pathetic the union’s efforts to secure arsenals had been. Any other standout episodes from their catalog?

There's one about a bunch of UAE princes who went hunting in a heavily Shia area of Iraq and got kidnapped that's both pretty funny (well at least the first part is) and really shows off how much Gary knows about niche ethnic conflicts in the middle east.

Holy loving god Trueanon #210 about the Ukraine invasion is the dumbest loving poo poo I've ever heard in my life.

TIL Russian military tech is 10 years ahead of anything the US has and their failure to achieve air superiority is an obvious sign that they're trying to minimize casualties 🤣

Ba-dam ba-DUMMMMMM

There's a somewhat new podcast called "I'm From the Internet" which is the history of SA's most famous/infamous sagas. It's SUPER worth a listen- the first episodes include Muerte's Walk Across America, the Hawaii yoga retreat/death camp, and most recently, THE JOOSE. The hosts are goony but do a pretty great job of reconstructing the stories and reading the best posts from said threads. I linked to the main hosts' website above, but you can find it on Apple Podcasts and I think Spotify as well.

Oh neat, to confirm is this different than the other SA saga podcast that folk figured out had been started by someone who had been perma’d?

Honestly I have no idea. I don’t think so but I don’t really keep up with goon drama aside from when it gets really funny. When was this other podcast first released? I think this one started up late last year.

Listened to a couple of episodes of this while at work today and it's very good. Even though I've had this account for almost 20 years now it always amazes me how much insanity has gone down on these forums that completely passed me by until someone mentions it in passing or something, usually years later. But I guess that's what happens when you only ever frequent 2-3 subforums at the very most.

It was also pretty funny how in the Manos: the Hands of Fate episode they mention Marshal Prolapse getting permabanned because he couldn't stop posting war porn

I've also never heard about this, what's the deal here? (assuming it's a different podcast to the one mentioned above)

Been listening to this for the past couple of days and it is really good. When I hear the words "goon" and "podcast", I tend to expect something either highly obnoxious or edge lordy. Podcast is neither and the hosts are great.

Moderated Content features the former biggest mod at Facebook turned academic internet bad content researcher and a snarky australian who became a US 1st amendment law professor focused on online speech regulation discussing the hottest topics in online content moderation, or "professional hot takes about how garbage twitter is now" and  at the wildest dreams of EU internet policy bureaucrats
