I figured something like this would show up sooner than later. If there is enough backlash about this, we may see an end to sports being segregated by sex. Who am I kidding? We will just use it as an arbitrary method to disqualify people we don't like for whatever reason.

JEDI scrapped, DoD to request proposals for Microsoft and AWS separately.

My theory has been: DoD wanted SharePoint, Office, and Power Apps, but wrote a proposal super vague for 'cloud services' so they could spend the money on whatever other services they wanted via Azure. While business apps that Microsoft already had met 80% of the DoDs needs and they knew going the Amazon or Google routes would require additional development and or implementation risks, since those platforms need independent software solutions to meet those 80% of specific needs, they never articulated it. So Amazon uses Trump's influence to kill the contract while the officials in charge of procurement turned over failing to achieve their legacies of a unified Outlook calendar for the DoD.

Does anybody know if the original JEDI proposal is publicly available yet?

This makes sense. I figured they needed way less space with the Afghan pull out and scrapped the project so they could draw up a proposal/request that was scoped correctly.

I like seeing the Olympics, but never go out of my way to.

I agree with the meme that says they should have 1 normal dude competing in every event to show the level these guys compete at.

And, the Grateful Dead once paid to send a team to the Olympics.

I want the "normal dude" to have little to no knowledge of the event.

Here comes Phil Bobsworth, this will be his third lifetime attempt at the Biathlon. Do you think that he even knows how to put skis on, you know, with him living in Egypt and all?

Not like him. More like trying to get my overweight rear end to do the high jump. I want to see completely average people attempt to compete with the pros. He knew how to put skis on. I would have to google what ski boots look like.

He is kinda cool though.

The problem with the Olympics and most sports, pro and amateur, is that they are a giant leech on taxpayers while providing no tangible benefit to anyone other than the already insanely rich.

Do you also hate the national endowment of the arts?

As a society, we absolutely should support Olympic athletes. We should, as a society support anyone who is one of the top people of their craft, whether it be music, art or some physical activity.

I get that the rich profit from the Olympics, that needs to change, but we should support the athletes.

wait do you think the olympics is an endowment of athletics and sports?

No, of course not.

I believe we should treat Olympic athletes better and grant them more support for training, travel, etc. Similar to the national endowment of the arts (allegedly) does for music, art, poetry, etc.

I get that the top half of the Olympics only exists to line people's pockets, but as a nation/society, we should encourage our population to strive to be the best in the world. The likely hood of us overturning the entire structure is slim to none. So why not make the piece of the pie that we do control better?

I don't think it's bad to want people to have support to be the best they can be without making them live in their car.

I've been seeing some stories out of South Africa like this:

https://apnews.com/article/africa-business-johannesburg-riots-south-africa-fe49fed65c696d0e9d587b9b5ad26aca

I'm not overly familiar with their politics, but the former president that is now in jail was basically their version of Trump, correct? If that is true, did we get off lucky with just the Capitol?

Right now, we've been lucky that the hypercontagious Delta variant has outcompeted all of the other variants, including some that had higher-than-expected vaccine evasion. The Israel study on Delta's evasion properties pretty much seems like an outlier at this point possibly due to numerator/denominator stuff (a lot are vaccinated!):

https://twitter.com/C_Barraud/status/1413744552066834436?s=19

So if you're travelling or living in the southern states where covid is a hoax and vaccination rates are poo poo, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to wear a mask. It'll definitely be a terrible fall, but we'll see if it's a bad summer too when the heat sends everyone inside.

I'm seeing this play out locally. One county has hit their vaccination goal, the county bordering to the north has not. The northern county elevated their 'rona tracker risk level within 2 weeks of detecting the delta variant.

It's going to be really interesting come election time when a significant portion of one party is either dead or in some COVID death ward because they refused to take a vaccine.
