Hatsune Miku is the face of possibly the largest collaborative artistic movement in the world of music. Going strong since 2007, the countless collaborators who create songs, illustrations, and videos are fans who want to be part of something they love and value: a unique indie scene.

And with that, we have an introduction for what I hope will be an active thread of people posting cool new music and art they just found, or to talk about the fun videogames, or discussing live concerts, or reminiscence about their favorite classics. So talk about Miku and her Vocaloid friends, as well as the Utaites who cover the former's songs.

Here's a sampler of some favorites of mine for your perusal:

There's actually a lot of creepy songs with vocaloid which work quite well since the voices are already distorted and uncanny by nature.

I really like this one: https://youtu.be/cQKGUgOfD8U

It's in English, too.

Vocaloid… good.

I finally picked up Neru’s CYNICISM recently so I’ve been really into the final song on it.

My favorite miku song has pretty much always been Unfragment. I've not listened to vocaloid music in a while now but this one has stayed almost perpetually on my playlists.

There's an english cover of it which is also good, it interprets the lyrics in a different way (and the original creator liked them which is neat), it's a real solid cover.

It's not exactly "singing" as such, but I've found this artist (band?) a few months ago and their jazz/lounge sets are excellent easy listening. I've got them on my phone for longer bike trips, which they fit perfectly.

Though of course they also have some stuff where singing is a real thing that exists.

Dune(AKA "Sand Planet") by Hachi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS4q9yaWJkI
For those unaware, Hachi is now better known as singer/songwriter/fashion icon Yonezu Kenshi, king of the charts in Japan. Originally started out as a vocaloid producer around the age of SIXTEEN and hit it big with Matryoshka, among other classics. Hung up the ol' Miku and picked up the Mic in 2012 with the debut album Diorama under his real name, came back a few years later for Donut Hole, and then a few years again after that with Dune. The feeling was wild when both of those dropped.

Yonezu Kenshi is my favorite musician of all time, so hearing his old work as Hachi makes me incredibly nostalgic for my teenage years.

It's not really Vocaloid related necessarily, but if we're already on the topic of early days Vocaloid producers and Utaite who've made it big after breaking out of the Vocaloid world, I think it's okay to mention Eve.

All of his songs are fantastic, and many have cool animated MVs. Some of my favorites:

As You Like It

How To Eat Life

The Secret About That Girl

Nonsense Literature

Dramaturgy - IMO his best song.

funnily enough i first heard of eve from his cover of Dream Lantern from Your Name :v:

probably a bit close to being off topic, but 40mp did an orchestral arrangement of several of that movie's vocal tracks that i really liked five years ago

e: another classic, Senka's cover of Pierrot, originally by KEI feat. Miku
