on first watch the standouts are the heart monitor, the Driving Crooner, and the drive through, but they’re really all wonderful

Gonz posted:“It’s just nothing but screenshots of cigars.” There were so many great details in that sketch. The fact that she had to scroll through so many pictures of cigars to see a picture of his hair that he took “last night.” The fact that the last text he sent to his friend is a cigar screenshot. The woman’s casual “the maitre’d says he’s seen that picture before” filling in so much in one sentence.

Can’t believe we haven’t discussed Richard Brecky yet. Absolutely one of the best sketches of the season so far. “WE’RE GONNA GO NUTS IN THERE!”

the pay it forward sketch is rapidly rising in my estimation. Tim’s warbling shriek as he flees is so good.

Tokyo Sexwale posted:his howl of utter agony when he loses his last $1000 at roulette might be the funniest thing he's ever done, for me for me it’s the entire gun shop sketch, which is in my opinion his best work ever. but really anyone who likes ITYSL should watch the Tim Robinson episode of The Characters since it’s basically just a bonus, double length episode of ITYSL.

I think each season has some all time greats. Off top of head that would include Howie at charades, Fred Willard’s organist, the car focus group, hot dog guy, Fenton’s Stables and Horse Ranch, the ghost tour, the ice cream store lie, the hat on trial, Dan Flash’s, Little Buff Boys, the egg game, the drive through, the Driving Crooner, and the ponytail sketch. ITYSL tends to get better on the rewatch, too.

Fenton’s Stables and Horse Ranch is one of the best sketches to me, y’all wild. Probably just never been made to feel like less of a man. To me the first season is the most consistent, later seasons have higher highs and lower lows. The first three episodes of season 2 are the funniest run in the show’s history but the second three are a lot worse.

the actress who played the prosecutor in the hat sketch made the sketch. Her cadence was perfect.

There is an old interview with the Monty Python guys where they said that they tried to never use punchlines because even if a sketch is outrageously funny, if the punchline sucks that’s all people remember. You just keep going until you don’t think it’ll be funny if you press any further, then you stop. ITYSL works the same way.

I went looking for the “fully loaded nachos” sketch and realized it wasn’t listed in the episode description (it’s S1E4). Same with the instagram pig dicks sketch. Are there any others that aren’t listed?

I like patti a lot but I feel like she’s not well-used in ITYSL. It’s hard to put my finger on it but I’d say that ITYSL sketches work well when everyone’s at a 2 and one person is at a 3 or 4, and gradually over the course of the sketch they ramp up to a 10. patti comes in at like 8-9 from the jump so you don’t get the same gradual disintegration of social norms. the best patti sketch is the surprise party for the boss, because it does have that ramp, and because she’s mostly doing extremely funny physical comedy rather than shouting and mugging (something I think Tim does a little bit too often as well)

Mister Speaker posted:He's got some kind of pre-show bit going on right now, it says 'live' but IDK. He was kicked out of his hotel room by the manager who accused him of making GBS threads himself, they wrestled for a bit, now he's walking around with his selfie stick and this guy is harassing and attacking him in the street because he said his AI comedian ruined his standup career. He's wearing the 'Standup Solutions' hat and polo shirt just like he was when I saw him. Whatever this is it's a pretty good lead-up to the show. Did he do a paint job in there?
