Specifically, the elementals designate one Padjal who acts as their head speaker and gets to age normally, while all the rest remain as children.

The padjal act as intermediaries between the rest of Gridania and the childlike-in-all-the-worst-ways elementals; the Gridanians follow the decrees of the elementals and Padjal (and the Conjurers, their students), and the elementals are supposed to offer them protection from any threats… though there’s something of a running theme that the elementals have become a lot more “all take, no give” when it comes to holding up their end of the bargain in the present day.

They also greatly complicate international relationships, because the elementals can’t (or choose not to) differentiate between generations of people; in the case of Ala Mhigo, because their recent ancestors went to war with Gridania a hundred years ago, the elementals refused to let them stick around… even though they were pouring in as refugees from their homeland getting conquered by the empire. Hence all the jokes about them being terribly racist.

TL;DR: The elementals are cats with godlike powers and Kan-E-Senna is the cat lady they kinda sorta listen to.

This isn't it. Kan-E-Senna is using glamour to look older, because she doesn't think the other Eorzean leaders would respect her as much otherwise. She's frozen in age like the rest of them.

She's also chosen by the other hearers to act as the lead representative.

Huh, I could’ve sworn that was how the Endwalker Tank role quests explained it, though it’s admittedly been a bit since I did that.

Oh, I thought I read that the Padjal just stopped aging at different points and assumed that was why Kan-E-Senna looked older

Hey all, just picked up the game again after not playing it since the original beta. I just hit level 21 on an arcanist and I am having an OK time, but it feels like I am missing something. I am focusing on the main quest and the arcanist quest. Any tips on what I should be looking out for or focusing on?

You're doing okay, level 20 main quest is where things start to really expand into the game as it is, finally out of most of the tutorial. Feel free to pick up crafter and gatherer classes that strike your fancy (and/or more combat classes), and look for a well-off lad in the main streets of Ul'dah with a blue quest over his head. In general, if someone's quest icon is blue and it's not just "Hey, join our guild of punchmans or harvestmans," do it ASAP.

You're on the right track. Do the MSQ/Class quests and stick to it. The initial ARR campaign, and the post ARR content can really become a slog imo. But the moment it's over and you hit Heavensward everything gets much better.

I will keep an eye out for them! Is it like blue with a little plus sign? I see a lot of those in the main city.

Also, I bought the version of the game that was $20. Can I still get the summoner or do I need to upgrade to a different version?

There are food buffs for every action you can undertake in the game (except golden saucer), the only drawback is you can only have one buff at a time.

In addition no matter what food buff you have all them of have a 3% exp buff(or at least I haven't seen any food that doesn't have it) it doesn't affect exp gained from quest, but it's still useful if you're leveling in dungeons.

As someone that regularly deposits valuable things into my FC chest for people to have, I've had to yell at multiple people to take things they want but thought it should go to someone else for whatever reason. Take the drat things! They were put in there for anyone to take! You're anyone! You can have nice things!

As long as you're not taking stuff out to resell then you should just take the drat things you want

Short answer: no. This isn't like WoW or other games where you have to pick one/two and get stuck with them, omnicrafting is encouraged (though not mandatory) and pretty easy to do if you don't mind the repetition; there's some quick ways to get crafter xp these days (grand company turn-ins, Ishgardian crafting in the Foundation in Heavensward) where doing it for multiple professions doesn't step on the others's toes. Custom deliveries for example are one per day for each profession.

Because of this, everyone who's interested in crafting can pretty much make whatever so the crafting stuff that's been around a while is overstocked. If you're crafting to make money it's pretty much just after a patch when new items come out. When first released those can only be made by specialists, and you can only specialize in three professions so there's more demand.

It's still satisfying to do, I enjoy making my own gear for leveling new guys or glamour, but don't look at it as your way to profits on the market board.

Yeah, my FC has a note along the same lines. We need to clean that thing out at some point, there's a massive stack of grade-3 orchestrion rolls for example that someone thought would get used much more quickly. Not to mention the random inks of all shapes and sizes to go with the orchestrion rolls.

crafting is a massive money sink where at the end of the sink you're allowed to make money, maybe, if you feel like grinding out a bunch of gear crafts right when an even-numbered patch drops and micromanage your sales to ensure they sell at reasonable prices
