Just sharing some info. Apparently if you need to scan something and don't wanna spend on scan spray, dry shampoo works pretty well. I know we have some people with scanners in here somewhere, but this was the first time I'd heard of a substitute. Hope it helps someone!

Trip report: got my order in of the 10 rolls of pla+ I mentioned a few days ago. Came shipped ups. Haven't had a chance to unbox yet, but they showed up really quick. I'm happy so far.

Epic miniatures patreon is pretty great. I don't even play RPGs but I'm still a patreon cause the models look badass and it's like 5 bucks a month. They hooked me with the grinning beholder.

Best bet for screen stuff is to just email elegoo or hit em up on Twitter.

pbpancho posted:Well my super cheap used Photon Mono is sort of hosed. Had a resin leak that ruined the screen and the clear piece it sits on, and since the LCD control panel has been sort of hosed up since I got it, I'm thinking I'm better off just getting a new printer. Is there a compelling reason to get anything other than another Photon Mono, assuming I don't want to spend more than $300? I have the magnetic build plate and extra vats/FEP for the Mono already, so I'm leaning that way but if there's a big upgrade I can get, I'd check it out. If you've already got the accessories for it, best bet is just to go with the mono. As awesome as it would be to have swappable vats and plates between makers, you'd end up having to repurchase all that stuff again.

Dunno but I saw a video where a guy did it and it worked pretty well. Upside is cheap replacement fep. Downside is the whole heating it up in the oven thing.

Neat. Elegoo announced their big resin printer, the Jupiter. Downside is it's on Kickstarter soon. Still, some decent deals if you are an early backer.

Bucnasti posted:Bigger than the Saturn? Naturally. It's slightly smaller than that gigantic one phrozen is offering. Lil larger pixel density and a smaller build volume, but also, lil smaller price. As mentioned, it's a Kickstarter printer, the upside being the super early bird ones are like 600 bucks. The downside being if they fail or just decide to take everyone's cash and haul it, there's nothing you can really do. I'm not a fan of established companies using it as a platform. Haven't heard if they are using a locked down board or not. Probably though.

Javid posted:Is the 8 or 13 buck stuff actually decent? I was advised early on to stick to a certain handful of brands, and while I've been perfectly happy with my $20 hatchbox PLA, even 13/kg would sure let me print more spaceships per effort of dealing with amazon I honestly have no idea. I have 2 fdm printers that I need to unbox and set up and just haven't had the time or space to do it yet. The good news is when I do I'll have 10 spools to go through! Was a bulk rate sale, but toss in free shipping and that's another 2 bucks off a roll. Figured at that price with the reviews I saw, it was worth a gamble. It wasn't Amazon, it was off gst3d.com if you wanna take a peek. I've gotten an email or two about their sales since then, so it might be pretty common. No idea. I'll post a trip report when I get my poo poo together and have a printer up to actually play with.

Anyone know of a neon red resin? I've found a blue one that's kinda light, and a green one that's damned near fluorescent, but not much in the red variety.

As someone who has a printer with a loving huge amount of space to print, I rarely, if ever, utilize the entire thing in any axis. However, I have had a few things I've printed that came close and it's always nice to have the extra room vs having to assemble/sand/glue/etc the pieces together. Best advice I can give is to get a few rulers and sit there with them in each axis until you can visualize the space you'll have to work with. If it seems ok, then cool. If it seems too small, then go for the larger one. Better to have and not need, etc.

Octoprint is pretty cool, but honestly it's more about not having to save a file to a drive or card and then go pop said card/drive into the machine to print. It basically makes it less hassle to print stuff. If you don't feel the urge to set up a server right now, it's not the end of the world. It's a nice add-on but if you don't mind saving the file and walking to the printer, it's not going to change your life or anything. It is kinda neat to have a time lapse of a print though.

Claes Oldenburger posted:I've been wanting to scratch the itch of small modelling (like Warhammer but not into wargames) and would rather do one offs instead of a whole army. Does anyone have favourite places to get cool small models to print? I like supporting artist patreons so if that's an option, that would be great! Warhammer scale would be perfect, and I prefer fantasy, but would be down for scale models of real things as well. Basically just looking for something fun to print, assemble, and paint. Epic miniatures is great. I support em, they generally put out 2 sets a month and 2 of their old sets as well. Great detail, and some amazing models. I think this months throwback has a pirate ship set you can build. This is the one that got me to sign up: Stupid_Sexy_Flander fucked around with this message at 04:14 on Sep 17, 2021 |

All depends on the patreon. Epic Miniatures adds them to a myminifactory account so you always own em, but I dunno about selling. It's gonna vary from Patreon to Patreon with regards to what and when you can sell. I think you have to be a current member or active patreon supporter to have the ok to sell, and most of the time there's a special tier for it. You tend to lose access when you cancel the sub. Kinda sucks, but at the same time I'm sure there were a lot of people signing up, downloading all the stuff and cancelling before the payment would post. This seems like a best of both worlds setup. I also support hex3d for stuff and after 3 months of subbing you get access to all his old stuff too. Other places, it's just what's out for the month. Always read the fine print before you toss your money at em.

InternetJunky posted:Yeah, if I find a newish patreon that I think has sellable work I'll sub as a regular patron for a month or two to make sure they keep the quality level up each month and then switch to merchant afterwards. That way you have a cheap catalogue of past months to get started with. Weird. If you are trying the same file, slice it again and go through the layers to make sure there's no weird islands. Could just be a corrupted file or a bad sector on the usb. Anything else and I'd assume you'd need to replace the lcd but you said exposure tests were fine. Maybe relevel the bed?

Yea I pre ordered a Saturn but kick-starting a new printer just doesn't seem like a great idea. The buyers have literally no recourse if the company just throws its hands in the air and goes "gently caress it, were going to Bermuda instead".

Yea, it's probably stuck to your fep. Run the resin through a paint strainer, and check the fep for anything stuck to it. Should peel off pretty easy though. You can either relevel the bed, or try a bit longer time for the first layers to kinda insure they cure and stick. I bought a bunch of 60cc feeder syringes off Amazon for like to make my life easier when doing this kinda stuff.

There's an option called vat clean on my saturn that basically cures the entire vat bottom and you can peel it off. I dunno if elegoo has added it to the other machines though.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/printinggoeseveron/puzzles-and-props As a DnD nerd this is fun, but as a 3d printing nerd, this scratches all kinds of itches for me I didn't even know I had. I'm not affiliated at all with this campaign, it just seemed to fit the thread pretty much dead on with the mini talk and printing questions. There's a couple of free stls on the page as well, plus an additional pack of monster trophies you can sign up for. Mods, if this is against some rule I dunno about, please feel free to delete. If anyone has any patreon pages or knows where to buy/get more of this kinda stuff, please let me know. I'm about 90% of the way of commissioning a Wand of Watoomb from Dr Strange. I saw anycubic was unloading resin printers for dirt cheap on eBay the other day. Think they have done original photon ones left for like 59 bucks. Didn't check out the listing but I was surprised to see it. Might be worth a peek of you are thinking of hopping into the resin part of the hobby.

Javid posted:I feel like that still amounts to a few hundred bucks, with resin and the rest of the assembly line and other startup costs included, so it's not THAT cheap. Still *pretty* cheap. Not really. If you have a prime account, you can get some decent resin for as little as 16 bucks for 500 grams. A bottle of IPA is about a dollar or two tops, a glass jar for washing is maybe a buck if that. A 10 pack of nitrile gloves is about 3 bucks at a big box store like Walmart (usually in the cleaning stuff aisle), and the sun is perfectly fine to cure things with. If the printer is 60, that's still less than a hundred by the time you buy everything. Hell, even popping a turkey roasting pan down to sit the printer in just in case it leaks just adds maybe 3 bucks to it.

I got a longer on sale at Amazon for like 250? bucks. Think the print volume is 300*300*400 and all the reviews I saw of it were basically "Yea, you need to make bigger wheels for the leveling, but other than that it's pretty sweet". I looked around but couldn't really find a bad review. I haven't actually put mine together yet, though. I just grabbed it cause cheap sale plus giant print volume means big prop guns.

I hadn't either, don't feel bad. I searched around for some bad reviews but the worst I saw was just the wheel thing and the one dude being kinda whiny about no bed leveling. At the price though, not really something I expected to be included anyway.

3mm normally. I worry a lot about things cracking if they get smacked. I'd rather spend a bit more in resin and have my print hold up to taking a header off the table than save half a penny and wake up to shards everywhere.

Caveat, I still haven't assembled mine, but all the reviews I saw at the time said "good printer, great price point" at 100 bucks more. Might be worth a look, thought someone might need a big one.

Looking for some advice on pricing. My mega 8k is going to be here soon. What's the current opinion on resin pricing for giant prints? I know I'm going to be printing some crazy stuff for myself, but with this giant fucker I figure I could also make a couple bucks on the side. Just ... No idea on what price range I should charge. I can easily find out how much resin the print will be with the slicer, but the time/curing/etc is throwing me a bit. No, no current plans to send out uncured resin prints. Just looking for ideas on what to charge. Don't wanna leave money on the table but also don't wanna overcharge like an rear end in a top hat either. Ideas/opinions?
