Voting closed! Audience 2 Decisions are made!

  • Injustice is a fact of the world the court decides, rebel readiness ticks up.
  • Literally the only thing the court can agree on unanimously is that Aliens are inferior.
  • The Vix Ambassador is dismissed brusquely.
  • A technological exchange is agreed with the Antarians!
  • The Officer Purge goes ahead! The worst performing officers are forcibly retired. This hits the Admirals of 6th, 7th and 8th Fleets but only Slaan Mercury of Seventh is sworn to a house.

Audience 2 concludes!

Ducal Actions

Bids are won by House Juno with 8 Favor to appoint a Political Officer (Evilking Juno) to 5th Fleet.

  • Mars and Mercury both attempt to Adopt the Vice Admiral of 7th Fleet. As both have the same number of fleets and officers a tiebreaker determines House Mars makes the appointment for 4 favor.
  • Mercury instead spends 4 favor to Adopt the Vice Admiral of 5th Fleet. Slaan Mercury is redeemed into a new position!
  • House Janus spends 6 Favor to add a combat squadron to 2nd Fleet.
  • House Saturn fails to submit moves!

Turn coming soon-ish.

Court and Ducal moves

It seems being a minister is a dangerous job! Minister for the Interior, Jadey Janus suffers a terrible AirCar accident when part of the Imperial Palace's air defense network inexplicably targets it. Agata Nowak also resigns after a scandal exposes her Rebel sympathies.

Out with the old in with the new! Mercury and Mars take the opportunity to insert more courtiers into junior positions. Somehow the court is shaping up to be generally competent.

5th and 7th Fleets end out with new officers due to the purges and the swearing of Vice Admirals! The important part here is both fleets are now under control of House Mars.

Turn 14

Judging themselves sufficiently reinforced, Admiral Innocent Bystander of the 2nd Fleet sallys out towards the world of Rheptas with 9th Fleet in tow.

Turn 15

The Vix collective sends a pair of probing assaults in the south but the defense subsidies on the border worlds and the presence of 5th Fleet make it difficult for them to gain a foothold.

Ingrod's defenses suffer heavy damage however.

In the north 2nd and 9th Assault Rephtas for the second time. The Narwog have not had enough time to completely restore the planetary defenses or reinforce the fleet.

Despite co-ordination difficulties between fleets and "too much tonnage" penalties the sheer number of Imperial ships sweeps away the defenders in a storm of laser & plasma fire. Rephtas orbit is ours!

Clever positioning by 2nd Fleet means 9th again takes the brunt of the damage with its second squadron nearly destroyed.

To call the Narwog unimpressed would be an understatement. An Imperial Embargo just makes things worse for them.

Turn 16

Sigh.

In the core worlds Astro-Engineers complete the terraformation of their first world.

The Parasites are still tearing into the Hive worlds and have even reached the Corrian border in the north.

5th Fleet reaches position to jump off and retake Faraul before 7th can be in position.

Turn 17

Busy turn for battles as the Antarians probe the border and we take the fight ot the Parasites.

5th Fleet comes riding to the rescue of the beleagured Imperial Citizens on Faraul.

They take some light casualties to their escorts but clear the skies of the parasite menace and start dropping stormtroopers.

The Parasites hit a Corrian (dark blue) border world and a Hive world with an Overmind (small crown symbol) as their expansion continues unchecked.

On the Antarian front they sally out to probe three worlds.

They are defeated apart from Gorganos, a freshly colonised world with no defenses to speak of.

Turn 18

The northern border quietens down as the invasions of Repthas and Gorganos continue.

Repthas falls to second and 9th fleets! +2 Empress's favor to House Janus and +1 to House mars because of their political officer.

Turn 19

Zooming out to show the whole Empire reveals the extent of the Parasite menace. Scientists proclaim they must be nearly at the natural extent of their expansion any time now.

Gorganos falls to the Antarians, 1st Fleet has finally built sufficient strength Admiral Jossar commits it against Guzix.

Turn 20

The Narwog strike at Rephtas but their strength is nearly spent, they are struggling to muster sufficient mobile fleet units to pose a threat. The Vix probe again on the southern border but the defensive wall there hold them back.

5th Fleet liberates Faraul from the Parasites! 7th Fleet is not far behind and the Admirals plan to strike back against the menace on the borders.

The battle over Guzix is hard fought but ends in an Imperial victory for 1st Fleet. Unfortunately I seem to have missed the screenshot of the casualties.

Turn 21

Parasite expansion seems to have halted! Elsewhere it is largely quiet along the frontier.

2nd and 9th Fleets have gathered enough strength that Admiral Innocent Bystander pushes onwards for an assault on the Narwog Homeworld. The planet has heavy defenses but he hopes superior numbers and the advantage gained from espionage will make the difference.

Turn 22

This turn the big news is the enormous assault on the Narwog Homeworld. However the Corrians (Dark blue in the north) launch their first incursion into Imperial space. Against the newly colonised world of Niris.

Despite enormously outnumbering the few defenders and planetary installations the Corrians are humiliated and compeltely wiped out. - Saros's note, I did not see this result coming!

All eyes now turn to Narwog, foregoing subtlety the two Imperial Fleets simply proceed directly towards the planet. The Imperials fire hundreds of railgun rounds at the planet from outside effective combat range of the vast planetary defenses, targeting population centers on the Narwog Homeworld. The majority are intercepted before they reach the planet but flickers of light across the surface tell a grim tale of gutted cities and towns as each railgun sabot has enough kinetic energy to turn into a multi-kiloton explosion on impact.

The standoff lasts over a day, Narwog civillian casualties climbing into the millions before the defenders nerve breaks and their ships foolishly burn to engage outside the umbrella of the planetary defenses. While valiant the Narwog charge is simply englobed by the vastly superior numbers of Imperial ships. With fire raining down on them from all directions the Narwog fleet fights to the bitter end, inflicting significant casualties on the Imperials but not a single one of their ships survives.

The obliteration of the planetary defenses afterwards seems merely a formality. Narwog orbit is ours and the stormtroopers begin to rain down across the world.

The state of the stormtrooper batallions is starting to become something of a concern. Between the reconquest of Gorganos and assaults on Repthas and Guzix the numbers of ready batallions is lower than the number of Narwog defenders. Given orbital fire support they will eventually take any planet but the ground invasion could be a drawn out process.

Turn 23

The Parasites are very suddenly in retreat, their presence disappearing from worlds as their armadas fall back towards their homeworld. A large empty void starts to emerge from what used to be Hive space. 5th and 7th Fleets pursie, trying to sieze planets before the Parasiites completely retreat.

The invasion of Narwog proceeds slowly.

Turn 24

Buret, a world on the Antarian border is colonised.

Ugh, the whole border erupts into violence.

Almost lost in all the battles is the Vix striking Ingrod again.

They run into the partially rebuilt planetary defenses at the same time as the pirates arrive. Its a mess.

In the north-east on the Antarian border the same thing happens as an Antarian relief fleet tries to pry 1st Fleet away from newly conquered Guzix.

Overall our investement via the budget in planetary defenses pays off as all but one world successfully resists the Pirates.

Turn 25

Planet Ostia in the middle of the Empire loses the fight against the pirates after a second round. They begin landing troops, a fleet will need to be sent to retake the world.

Out west the Parasite retreat continues, leaving behind a swathe of empty worlds.

The siege of Narwog continues. 9th Fleet has pulled back to Rephtas after an attempt by the Narwog to slip a fleet around and cut the supply lines.

Finally a new tech arrives. A 30% chance that both ship repairs and construction will take a turn less will help us keep our fleets in tip top shape.

Thats all for this round! Next up Audience 3!

The Empress will hear your petitions now. Dukes! Make your petitions and bids using the Empress's Favor you have collected and prepare your next political moves in the court. (If you are taking over fleets consider having your top Admiral give it orders) Admirals consult your houses and prepare orders for your fleet (Jossar, Innoccent Bystander, Incy, Sparkletits)

Empress's Favor available is in the Tracking Sheet

The Fleets

1st Fleet has spread its squadrons out along the Antarian Border and chased off a Tau Cetian probe this turn at Buret. It will be at full strength of just under 200 ships next turn.

Second Fleet has the Narwog Capital under siege with all four of its squadrons. It too will be back to full strength very soon and Ninth fleet is holding open the supply lines at Rephtas.

Fifth Fleet is recovering at Kenos on the Vix frontier. It is deppleted from its efforts against the Vix and the Parasites but there are over eighty ships under construction for it (eta 3-4 turn before they reach the fleet).
Seventh Fleet is at Ferras two jumps away and is at around 90% strength.

A smaller Audience this time around.

Worrying evidence comes to light around the strange subspace disruptions scattered across the galaxy.

Decision 1 - Indigestion

The Empress survives a poisoning attempt but is, displeased, with her court.

Option A - All courtiers loyalty 4 or lower are fired.
Option B - All courtiers loyalty 6 or lower are fired.
Option C - 30% immunity to poisoning events for the next audience.

Decision 2 - Spring cleaning with the Stasi

Option A - All courtiers of House Janus get -1 Loyalty. (I do not know if this takes effect before the above purge event).
Option B - All courtiers have a 10% chance of +1 Corruption.
Option C - All courtiers of House Janus with 7+ corruption are fired (2 of their 4 courtiers)! The rest get -2 Loyalty. All Courtiers have a 5% chance of -1 Corruption.

Decision 3 - Imperial Project

This happens roughly every 50 turns as you build points via investing in the budget and has permanent effects. The Empress has shortlisted 3 options for this round, all give +1 Prestige as well as their other effects.

Option A - Law Enforcement Agency (+10 security rating on all planets, helps counteract the rebellion).
Option B - Imperial University (+10% research speed).
Option C - War College (All officers start with +1 competence).

Decision 4 - MORE missing equipment

Option A - +10 Rebel power, (this determines the strength of the rebellion when it happens). 100 is bad, 150 is catastrophic and 200 is probably a game over.
Option B - -2 Rebel power, 5% chance of -1 loyalty on all officers.
Option C - All vice Admirals are fired, 10% chance of -1 loyalty on all officers. note, the new Vice Admirals generated by this will all be unaligned.

Decision 5 - Spooks in the house

Option A - Rebel power -3 and readiness -3%
Option B - +4000Cr
Option C - 30% Immunity to poisoning for 2 audiences.

Rebel stats for reference. We have about 30-35 turns before it kicks off at current gain of 1.3% per turn and its a really really bad time (I have ironman options for more powerful and faster building rebellions turned on).

2nd Fleet, high orbit of Narwog Prime.

To her imperious majesty and her loyal advisors,

2nd fleet's campaign is proceeding well. Narwog Prime is being pacified as I write this. My personal compliments to the Empress for the critical support 9th fleet is providing to this operation.

Once Narwog Prime is secure, we will continue to methodically conquer the remaining Narwog worlds in the name of the Imperium, advancing when we have numerical superiority. We will ensure the campaign proceeds smoothly and without any unnecessary losses to the Imperial fleet. The continued assistance in 9th fleet to ward off alien counterattacks would be greatly appreciated.

Furthermore, my recommendations regarding the current matters at court, as I have been informed of them:

1 B: Better bite the bullet now before it comes back to bite us.
2 B: It’s all libel, lies, slander, and vicious rumour-mongering.
3 A: Let us nip this talk of insurrection in the bud while there is still time.
4 C: While we’re busy spring cleaning anyway. (No ofense, BoomF22, but I just don’t think you’re cut out for 2nd Fleet.)
5 A: And the cherry on top of our rebel supressing agenda.

The Court

The purges hit nearly a third of the court with a massive amount of turnover. (Green circles on the portrait mean the character is new).

Another wave of dismissals, accidents and "resignations" hits soon after as the Court unrest continues.

In the end the balance is somewhat restored and everywhere except Foreign affairs is fairly competently staffed. However, House Mars has lost their iron grip on the Ministry of Defense. Phew, that was quite a round.

Turn 26

The Empire in turn 26 of the Empress's reign.

Diplomacy

Vix Collective

Antarians League

Both the major neighbours, the Vix and the Antarians are slow to wake to the threat posed by the newly vigorous Empire. The Antarians are annoyed at the Empire seizing the border worlds while the Vix are equally as worried about the never-ending frontier skirmishes with the Sh'a Monarchy.

However even the Antarians do not consider the current conflict more than a minor skirmish - not worth devoting serious resources to.

As an aside, the Narwog are really really angry at us for obvious reasons but lack the capacity to do anything about it.

Turn 27

We get a new cruiser design (finally). This is actually quite a big deal as tehe Fortitude class is our first ship to carry a comms array which means we can rework our squadrons and stop suffering a -20% accuracy penalty.

Squadrons get 2 less Prometheus battleships and 3 less Ariel cruisers in exchange for five Fortitudes. The total fleet stands at just under 1300 ships.

Narwog falls! House Janus receives +4 Favor for taking an enemy Capital!

Attacks along the Antarian Frontier are held off by 1st Fleet.

The heaviest fighting is at Neton where the Antarians are routed in exchange for some lost planetary defenses.

Turn 28

A quiet turn, Fleets hold their positions except in the south where Mars's 5th and 7th Fleets are preparing for moves against the Vix.

2nd Fleet, having gathered sufficient strength begins a systematic conquest of Narwog space starting with Idiku in the south. 9th moves to cover Narwog itself.

Meanwhile in the south Admirals Incy (5th) and Sparkletits (7th) have been scheming. They have devised a way to significantly shorten the border with the Vix collective, all it requires is the conquest of three planets.

Turn 29

The Antarians hit the border again, this time with more force but 1st Fleet manages to hold the line.

Idiku comes under attack by the 2nd!

With only a few cruisers lost the 1st sweeps aside the defenders and occupies the planetary orbit.

Turn 30

The offensive against the Vix begins! We win but at a cost.

Turn 31

Good news!

Era 2 has dawned. It's actually bad news, an Era of Coalition means all three of the major powers manage to agree the newly expansionist Empire poses a threat to Galactic stability. All truces with them are cancelled and you get a diplomatic malus against all major empires increasing the threat you are perceived as and thus the military power they will dedicate against you.

The Empire's current victory status.

Lots of battles today!

In the north, taking advantage of a lull in the fighting and a new squadron arriving from Terra Admiral Innocent Bystander moves to retake the Imperial colony world of Gorganos.

The Narwog front sees 2nd moving to take a second world, the ysuffer heavy casualties but manage to secure the system and invasion can begin.

In the south, phase II of the Vix plan begins as the two fleets sweep eastwards leaving behind a squadron to continue the occupation of Emrod.

Finally, the newly reconstituted from a defensive posture 6th Fleet under Admiral Ichabod Saturn has gathered enough strength to consider a raid to shorten the Corrian frontier in the North-West.

Turn 32

Idiku falls! +2 Empress's Favor for House Janus!

Just north-west the hive assaults 2nd fleet as they continue to invade Rileos. Occupation of the Narwog has finally given us a border with the bio-menace. 2nd fleet is victorious but is under half strength and struggling to receive reinforcements this far out. 9th at anrwog also fights off a repprisal raid by Narwog forces.

Over on the Antarian front the defenders of recently taken Guzix are surprised by yet another Antarian reprisal. Since the Era change the Antarians have been much much more aggressive. Guzix orbit falls and the Antarians start to land troops.

2nd fleet is out of position. Admiral Jossar gambles that he can take Gorganos and then jump past the Antarian world of Yuter to relieve Guzix.

Finally 6th fleets raid on the Corrians gets off to a very poor start.

Despite a numerical advantage they lack the newer cruiser designs and take a lot of casualties. They dont quite manage to take the planet but should next turn.

The Corrians (and all minor races) have gotten a significant tech boost by the new Era.

With four simultaneous invasions Stormtrooper Batallions are at a premium and the rate of planetary conquest slows as no more reserves are available.

Turn 33

Despite the Stormtrooper shortage the Vix planet of Emrod in the south falls to the Empire. +2 Favor for House Mars, +1 Favor for House Juno!

Disaster strikes for 6th Fleet in the south as Corrian reinforcements arrive over Chraegmos!

They fight valiantly but are forced to retreat to the Empire and await reinforcements & repairs.

Another wave of Antarian ships crashes into the border defenses as 1st fleet attacks Gorganos next turn, Guzix also receives reinforcements. The border holds thanks to the defense subsidies giving up to 160 planetary defense guns. per planet.

Turn 34

Guzix falls as the 1st Arrives at Gorganos.

Battle over Gorganos goes well as the planets orbit is taken with minimal casualties, Admiral Jossar leaves a squadron behind to take the planet and jumps for Guzix (2 turns) to relieve the world under siege.

Over on the Vox border the 5th and 7th continue their assaults, proceeding along the string of worlds towards their destination. The Vix counter-strike at Ingrod to the east but the defenses hold (barely).

The loss of ships via the huge amount of actions over the last turns is starting to get worrying.

Turn 35

More attacks by the Antarians on the border worlds, nearly all the planetary defenses are now depleted. Even more worrying Guzix is now reinforced enough that the Antarians will outnumber 1st Fleet when it arrives (units in FTL cannot be recalled). Gulp.

We are still taking worlds however slowly.

Turn 36

:stonklol:

Our entire western border comes under massive attack by Pirates and Brigands. The border is still weak from having to fill the gaps where 6th fleet was previously deployed. We're going to lose a couple of these planets and a lot of ships unfortunately.

First things first, the farm world on Aman falls to the Empire. Its hugely developed agriculture goes a long way towards fixing our Empire wide food deficit. +2 Favor to House Mars, +1 Favor to House Juno

The Zurari Minor race, as yet of no note try to snipe the world of Gorganos from the squadron of 1st Fleet left to complete the occupation. They are unsuccessful.

I start to sweat a bit as the Antarian defenders of Guzix are reinforced to 172 ships vs the 138 of 1st Fleet.

1st of course comes through and utterly annihilates the Antarians. I thought this was going to be a much harder fought battle and thanks to this we should be able to stabilise the frontier.

9th Fleet steps in to take position over Rileos and continue fending off the Hive who has been attacking every single turn. The 2nd finishes the conquest as they arrive and departs for Narwog Prime. +2 Empress's Favor for House Janus!

Turn 37

16 Battles this turn, this is getting out of hand.

6th Fleet smacks down a Corrian probe as they start to receive reinforcements. 9th continues to hold the border against an attack from the Hive every drat turn. Whoops, should probably not have opened a border with them.

Guzix is retaken for I think the third time. Seriously this planet must be nothing but bomb craters by now. Thankfully we should be able to stabilise the border here...

Turn 37

So here's a thing. The Vix collective has a massive city planet, one of their major manufacturing hubs which we just scouted and revealed.

Hesperia has about 2x the manufacturing capacity of Terra or about 15% of the entire Empire's manufacturing capacity, on a single world. It also has enough services to add about 10% to the Imperial budget's cashflow.

Empress say

Then again, we aren't exactly in the best shape right now.

The fleet at the start of this post:

The fleet now:

We have a bit more tonnage total thanks to the addition of extra cruisers to squadrons but yikes. We can currently produce 10-20 Capital ships or 60-100 Escorts per turn depending on the exact type.

Our Major Foes:

As you can see we are hilariously outnumbered. Its actually kinda comical.

Perhaps unsurprisingly they hate us a bit more but both still consider the ongoing conflicts to be border skirmishes.

Overall not the worst round, we colonised five planets and took seven from hostile nations but to do that we have run our fleet absolutely ragged, we are about to lose the yellow highlighted planet to pirates. Rebellion readiness is also up to 67%

Up next, the next audience and rundown on the fleets! Phew that turn took a while to write up, too much going on! Also now its a new Era I will be resurrecting all the killed goon characters.

From the desk of Duke Kerath

Hail the conquering fleets and the brave heroes that crew them! I am unsure who determined that throwing the Ministry of Defense into chaos during this time of crisis was wise, but once those traitors have been corrected and order restored to the Ministry, the nation will be once more united in purpose behind our iron guardians.

The real power behind countless overlords

That was a heck of a round. Are the alien empire fleets really only half the size of ours? Sure there's three majors and a bunch of minors, but still...

Please add me as someone related to colonization. Preferably as Mercury or Saturn since they don't seem to have done much the last round and could probably use some more players.

Mars has a number of exciting expansion related opportunities on the horizon!

I think you're misreading the numbers somewhere. We have a hair over 1000 ships while the majors have 5000 and 6000 each respectively. Even the Narwog still have as many ships as us and we own their homeworld.

Our saving grace right now is the majority of the Major empire's fleets are tied up in defending worlds and those defensive fleets will not go on the offensive and only rarely react to attacks on neighbouring worlds. This can change however.

Keep on GOP rolling rolling rolling rolling.

Taking that megaworld would be a shot in the arm for the empire, also the major alien powers have a higher development level than we do. Taking that planet would be GREAT
