The standards of excellence that give House Ariness its impressive reputation are mantained by a small but extremely capable team of tutors who, together with the heads of the family, ensure that each child of the house is given an education befitting their natural talents and in accordance with the divine ways of the House's gods (or rather, of the gods that the House insisted were the gods of all drowkind, but that only the house revered with any insistence). This allows them to flourish into the masters of their chosen fields that the other Houses are so eager to get on their side.

But every family has its black sheep, and it will be a long time before the tutors of House Ariness will forget just how terrible a pupil young Drazyn was.

When introduced to a new concept or subject, he wound inevitably showcase great enthusiasm, and study it voraciously at first; but inevitably, usually within the week, his enthusiasm would fade, and he would grow more and more phlegmagically bored; that is, until he found something else to get obsessed by. The tutors' ever more drastic attempts at making him stick with a subject only succeeded in giving him a chip on his shoulder, which manifested in as many ~hilarious japes~ as a distant cousin from a cadet branch could get away with.

He did, however, eventually push it too far. In retrospect, showing up to the opening night of the grand opera Vular's Rise To The Stars dressed as an high-class prostitute was something that he just couldn't get away with, even if in his opinion he had really pulled off the look. Matriarch Volana had him married off to a minor house that, while poor in prestige, had made it rich by investing in lucrative mining contracts on several asteroid belts.

Ironically, Drazyn of House Elphra turned out to be much less troublesome for his new house than his old self had been for his old one. He still was quite mischievous, and had quite the sharp tongue, but he had no quarrel with his new family and so he didn't feel the need to hide Quantzian wurms in anyone's punch. His quirky nature would still crop up occasionally, such as the time when a peculiar egg was found in one of the asteroids. The Elphra elders wanted it destroyed, but Drazyn requested permission to study it, and then to keep it, and then... to raise it.

Nowadays Lulu is an extremely valuable and mostly well-behaved asset of House Elphra, fed on an healthy diet of political prisoners and Plisean enemies. Note, however, that this doesn't make her popular, and while the elders of House Elphra are grateful for the military support the beast has provided, they wish that Drazyn would stop bringing her to important functions and cooing over it like she was a beloved pet.

Anyway, the participation on this colony venture has been something that Drazyn was strongly against, but he is very much in the minority here. House Elphra as a whole, including his wife, believe that this is an occasion not to be missed; not just to enrich themselves (House Elphra has a reputation for being "new money", but they are just keenly aware that riches and resources open many doors, and have in fact sponsored a lot of the Sominaia given how minor they are) but to gain prestige and the support of great Houses while doing so. Not mere work for low-born miners, this! When it became clear that this was happening one way or the other, Drazyn accepted to join the colonization efforts, if nothing else because he wouldn't let his former family look excessively good without at least trying to embarass them a little.

He still has that prostitute dress, you know.

Special Gear
-A custom-made saddle for Lulu. It was extremely hard for the engineers of House Elphra to make, as the beast has a challenging anatomy and even more challenging temperament, but with Drazyn keeping it calm nearby it was possible to take enough measurements to actually make the drat thing. It is Drazyn�s sincere belief that he cuts such an intimidating figure sitting atop his beloved steed from beyond the stars that it was worth all the labor. (Unfortunately, it turns out that actually riding said steed into battle is not actually practical, as his weight slows her down too much. Oh well.)

-A single, precious bottle of Fallow Fields �21. This extremely expensive wine was originally called Fair Fields, but then the planet where it was produced became incapable of sustaining life (for reasons completely unrelated to the use of chemical weapons in the nearby systems by the Vular Imperium, obviously) which made its price skyrocket. Nowadays being served a glass is quite the compliment, even if it is served in special glasses the size of thimbles, with an instrument that is basically an eyedropper.

Relationship:
Positive: Imogen Roitlin thinks that Lulu is the coolest thing amongst the stars ever since she caught a glimpse of her while she was exploring the ship. This is presumably because Imogen is still a juvenile by derro standards, and from her point of view this is like a giant version of the bugs that she used to collect in jars back home, except this one is so big!
Drazyn finds this little pigtailed pipsqueak utterly charming, and will take meals in the common cafeteria to teach her about animals and answer her endless questions on the subject. The Roitlin parents are somewhere between flattered that a noblemen would be interested in spending time with their daughter and a bit worried about what he's encouraging in her.

Neutral: Ravlina of House Elphra is Drazyn's wife, and she is perfectly aware, much like him, that theirs is a political marriage with no consideration for their feeling whatsoever. They put up the necessary appearances in public, and they strive to be cordial towards one another (for peace of mind if nothing else) but the truth is, Ravlina is much more interested in handling finances, numbers and the life of the mind and has no patience for the parties and pranks that Drazyn enjoys. They occasionally find some common ground when he's hyperfocusing on something that she has some knowledge about, but that's it. They would have no reason to interact with each other if they didn't happen to be married.

Hostile: Back when Aranov of House Gulgos became so suddenly and so openly hostile towards Drazyn, it actually took him by surprise, as he wasn't aware that he'd done anything to him. A bit of investigation revealed that he had apparently taken great offense that the egg (that would one day become Lulu) had not been handed to his house, since they were the most well known for handling dangerous fauna. The young rake thought this was absolutely hilarious, and then pretended that he and Aranov were best friends at every formal occasion from there on out, just to watch him fume. It was hilarious.

Drazyn is a great app and fulfills my Ariness member quota as well as the Defender request. If anyone else wants to join you can be much more free in character design or even show up later. Significantly later, what Rimworld game doesn't have random wanderers and recruits?

Lulu's Saddle allows Drazyn to enter Lulu's squares and mount her, sharing the same square. While doing this Lulu's speed is reduced to 4 but any melee attacks and forced movement attacks against Drazyn have disadvantage but AOEs hit both(if Drazyn is behind Lulu he has cover, if he is atop her he does not.) Ranged Attacks otherwise hit Drazyn normally. The saddle also gives Drazyn a +1 to Skills involving using Lulu as a mount and a Skill Check can be used to improve her move speed briefly as part of a skill related manuever(i.e. attempting to do a sick leap or spur Lulu into a manic charge, though if the Skill is low this can go poorly.) Note that while the +1 could apply to Skills socially(i.e. having Lulu do an amazing dance to impress someone that would be impressed by a mounted show) it cannot affect creatures mentally beyond that(particularly if they don't care or are repulsed by Lulu/antagonistic to Drazyn.)

The Bottle of Fallow Fields '21 adds +1 to a social skill check where relevant, limit of once per that encounter. It has 5 charges and once gone they can never return.
