Okay, but where the gently caress do orgs like the Intelligence Support Activity / Gray Fox / TFO get their guys? I know they have shooters, SIGINT, and CI people. Do they just recruit from regular Army counterintelligence, SIGINT, and siphon off shooters from SMUs?

I really like watching / listening to The Team House, a podcast run by Jack Murphy, former SF and journalist / author. He gets guests from everyone from CIA Ops officers or SAD, Army SF, Delta, SEALs, even had some Danish snow patrol dude. The show's a great listen while doing chores.

The one guy I know who did something like that was SF, screened for CAG, failed, did some more time in SF then screened ~something else~ probably activity but I dunno

GD_American posted:

I know peer fails are absolutely a thing in SF; does SEAL training have anything similar?

Nothing formal no. If you pass all the evolutions and don’t quit you’re in. In practice there are some peer evals but it’s more on the class/instructors to make them quit.

Maybe more after first phase but hey I didn’t get that far

They recruit heavily from SF. Support positions come from all over the Army.

I saw this in practice. The little detachment on FOB Warhorse needed a guy for the radio side, so they approached our sig company and asked for one. We loaned them an E-5 that was young, high-speed, good on the technical side, strong in PT. We never saw him again. I asked months later, they said "that's how they recruit. If they like you, you don't go back"

quote:

On Wednesday, his associate told a judge in one case that Mr. Pierce had gotten Covid-19 and was in the hospital on a ventilator — but only after telling a prosecutor in another case that Mr. Pierce had been in a car accident. That same evening, a different associate told a reporter that Mr. Pierce had in fact been hospitalized, but was getting care for “dehydration and exhaustion.”

Finally, on Monday — after Mr. Pierce had still failed to emerge — the government got involved. Federal prosecutors issued letters to several judges in 17 Capitol riot cases, informing them that no one in the Justice Department had heard from Mr. Pierce in a week and that “multiple” phone numbers for his law firm appeared to have been disconnected.
-----
While the government has not yet weighed in on the merits on his claims, prosecutors did express concern in their letters filed on Monday about the young associate, Ryan Joseph Marshall, who has been standing in for Mr. Pierce at the hearings he has missed.

For one thing, Mr. Marshall is not a licensed lawyer, prosecutors said, and has taken actions on behalf of clients “that he is not permitted” to take. Moreover, they went on, it remains unclear if and when Mr. Marshall will be able to get his law license given that he is under indictment in two criminal cases accusing him of corruption, theft and fraud in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Pierce’s situation is not his first encounter with personal and professional setbacks. Last year, his law firm nearly collapsed in a swirl of debts and resignations. Then his most prominent client, Kyle Rittenhouse, the young man charged with murder at a racial justice protest in Wisconsin last year, fired him in a highly public spat that included allegations that a charity arranged for the defense had engaged in financial improprieties.

It's so hard to find good help these days.

Yeah there was a delicious footnote in the court filing explaining that his clerk won’t be able to take over his cases.

In texas news, a texas judge has issued a TRO preventing the most likely plaintiffs from suing under the new anti-abortion law that goes into effect at midnight. It isn’t a blanket TRO and will not stop enforcement of the law, though.

One VA nurse in Ohio told Government Executive her facility is seeing younger and sicker COVID019 patients, who more frequently than previous surges require extended stays in the hospital. Her emergency room is “overflowing,” she said, and other, non-VA ERs are also full so her facility cannot transfer patients out as it normally would. Systemwide, VA currently has nearly 14,000 active cases.
