Bella leaps forward, space warping and turning jagged as she flings the halo forward. The world cracks, like a video feed gone bad, purples and blues crackling in great digital blocks of static. The jagged warping is inescapable, eating away at the grunts, the rocks, and that stupid looking gun-wagon. Ugh.

Move to E8, Localized Inferno on -F5 through A11, dealing 3 damage to all, encounter role power Terrain, first option, -E6 to -A10 become Difficult Terrain until the end of the encounter and any Low Cover that's there (the gun turret wagon walls?) are removed.

The spatial warping contracts, but quite a lot of it remains, space broken in the area for at least a little while.

With the hostiles blocking the way eliminated by Penelope and her crew, Narinth bounds forward like a runaway freight train. She gives Penny an appreciative nod as she rushes past in search for something to hurt, and much to her gratification finds that she doesn't have to search far. She runs up to the Gith Commander that someone had left lying on the ground and aims a kick at her head as if it were a football, scoring a clean hit with her mighty boot. Not keen to stick around to determine the blast radius of the spiky sizzling grenade, she continues deeper into the cave to see if she could spot the killing machine Arin mentioned.

Attack: Run n' Gun: Gain another 10 squares of movement and make a basic attack. Moving to E5 to flank the Gith Commander.

Bella: (Gun turret is in F12.) Your psionic projection inspires a withdrawing function in the nanite everywhere, clearing it away as it recedes intoc racks in the walls and ceiling! You also torch three of these malformed goons, putting them on their last legs.

Narinth: You come up to a downed target in perfect position and perform a crushing head stomp, your opponent having armored everything but their dome. You hear a satisfying crunch and see sprays of blood to either side but the darkness blocks the exact state of your target. As you withdraw you hear a howl of anger and the rest of the group sees the Gith Commander rise to her feet, head almost entirely obscured saved for one intact eye behind a writhing cloud of the static-y nanites, her life's viscera clearly removed from inside her... but a fully muscled skeleton intact, waiting for electrical impulses. A jarring sight, to say the least!

SEBASTIAN: Sierra must agree as she withdraws and strikes dramatically at the horrid ghoul!

Drazyn: Lulu bites Commander for 2 Damage, Drazyn moves artfully closer to the fray, but not into it.

"Targets down, move with me and supress that big gun before it fires!" Penelope reloads mid flight before pointing her PDW at the general mass of the heavy weapon and...watching it disintegrate. She glances down at the magazine, she always marked each different ammo type with a different color of duct tape, even if she didn't quite remember what each one meant. A half second later, "puke yellow-green" came back to her. "I didn't think that crazy rear end in a top hat had *actually* loaded it with ground lich bones, I thought it was just thermite..."

Penelope: You open fire on the goons and their machine, handily blowing their knees out with occult war crimes after Bella softened them up with psionic napalm. Just as the founding matriarchs intended. The Thumper takes damage but keeps banging away, set to overriden, horribly overclocked settings that keep it and its odd pistons pounding away at the stone walls still!

Ka-boom! Brrrttt-rrtt-rrtt-rrttt!!! Never one to let a good gun go unfired, the Gith Commander's grenade explodes in her face at the same time that her goons open fire on her! She takes 2 + 2 Damage and she'd be rather cross if she had more of her brain and jaw intact!

Having exposed herself as an easier target than the giant worm the goons swarm, clawing their way out of the psionic flaming mess and picking up and slamming down the gun turret, beginning to rev it up again for another volley. Those not on the gun team open fire on Bella at the same time that the Gith Commander rises and closes on Sierra, lashing out with her axe and shield.

Drazyn: Lulu Mark violation by Gith Commander.

Bella is tagged for 2 damage and Sierra for 3, as well as being Grappled. The static screeches of anger from the Commander accompany her cornering and bashing Sierra repeatedly to the wall in an unending assault. Less theatrically the goons shoot Bella twice with their crude firearms, one nearly exploding from its state of negligent disrepair...

Continuing its rhythmic thumping the disastrous Thumper unleashes further cave-ins, rocks crashing down at alarming proximity and cutting off even more of the arena. The only mercy here is nobody is directly under any falling debris!



Mercy is discarded as a loud explosions from the Northern hall heralds the arrival of a "Killing Machine", a massive walker similar to the style of one of the Mehmen Elders. This one looks a bit more purpose-engineered, aside from the swarms of nanite static rising from seams around the cockpit and the general disrepair. Turning and pointing a massive arm-mounted weapon at Penelope and Narinth, the Killing Machine emits an unearthly loud sound as twin-mounted engines on the back rev, clearly not part of the original design. They try to feed something into the weapon and engineer a reaction and.. ah, it all explodes, the top half of the machine blown open and lines of the static nanite swarms rippling upwards with the smoke.

: Pilot Art. Another Githyanki, though the severe warping and merging of man, metal and static makes anyone's guess as good as any! "TIME TO DIE, OFFWORLDERS!!" He stands at the center of the cockpit, his arms a molten mass of ludicrously soldered flesh and metal merging into the frame of the walker, his body standing ramrod straight and Gods only know if anything under his bare chest has fared any better.

In the wake of its arrival through the stone adjacent to the actual hall more flayed goons arrive, slamming down another gun platform and aiming it down Penelope and Narinth's way!

Killing Machine turns and rockets off a set of digging claws, embedding them in a nearby wall to its West attached thick industrial strength chains, shoulder-mounted servos beginning to accelerate like a slightly tamer jet engine! They're still only chains and suspended several feet off the ground, not blocking movement or even occupying squares, but like everything in this cavern the sounds associated with them are most ominous.

Penelope genuinely enjoyed the aesthetic of the flayed screaming idiot and filed that under "things to never think about again and allow to boil around in your subconcious until it manifests in a profoundly unhealthy way" like most vular did. She and her crew also crowd both the newcomers and put anti-vehicle charges directly at their feet.

Drazyn finds the pseudo-life going on with the pilot of the Killing Machine extremely intriguing, but he manages to wrench his attention away from that abomination against nature to focus on his own abomination, the one that perfectly aligns with Mother Nature's design. He zig-zags across the battlefield, just in time to witness to a truly heartwarming sight.

Lulu, having finally had enough of the Gyth Captain's loud explosions and unpleasant smell, snatches her between her powerful jaws and starts jerking her head left and right. In the elegant movements of her neck and jaw, Drazyn recognizes the modus operandi of carnivores to snap their prey's neck. He is filled with fatherly pride as she hucks the mangled corpse of their commanding officer in the direction of the grunts.

As Drazyn places his hand on her side, she hisses her challenge at the nearest grunts.

"Come!" the drow shouts. "My baby's still hungry! Who's up for seconds?"

Well, looks like she managed to spot the killing machine alright. Narinth points her miniature railgun in the biomechanical horror's general direction and lets it rip as she deftly maneuvers around him, but the weak penetrative capabilities of the small nail-like projectiles saw them bouncing harmlessly off his armor plates, sending an unpleasant spray of sparks and ricochets in all directions. Narinth grits her teeth and reaches for something with a larger caliber...

Penelope: Killing Machine will stand and provoke AoO.

Drazyn: As the Gith Commander's largely unoccupied neck and spinal cord are severed one final burst of activity overtakes her, a surge of static flooding down that ruined neck and brute forcing a great deal of savage spasms into her muscles. In a burst of spastic flailing and slamming inside Lulu's mouth the Commander's bayonet-axe erupts from the topside of Lulu's jaw before the horrible creature goes still, a great spurt of blood intermixed with the dying static that soon blacks out, sparing the spread of infection but not 4 Crit Damage!

Bella: (Since the party all go at the same time I'll put Bella's attack first and chip in 2 extra damage from Penelope and Narinth hitting after the Vuln 1.)

The goons with the upright machine gun to the East open fire, obliterating one of their own! They have a good laugh about it and reset the belt, immediately spinning up to fire again with red hot barrels! Meanwhile the louts to the Northwest pick up their prone gun platform and reposition, boldly asserting their intent to open fire on Narinth and Penelope. (And perhaps inciting more AoOs with the pick up and movement, the gun itself passing by Penelope.)

Killing Machine took a knee to be Prone but freely rises from it.

: "DIE, KNIFE-EARS!!" A static reverb shreds his vocal chords and distorts his scream as the digging claws rev, slash through the wall and floor like butter and retract back to the robotic walker! The gouges leave fresh lines of living nanite static, contaminating the ground! Penelope was directly under the arm and narrowly evades the backlash of the insane swing!

Not content with that the crazy walker raises a leg and stomps directly at Penelope! A clumsy blow that's easy to evade! The impact contributes to the shaking of the caverns, much like the Thumper, which enters an unusually lowkey period of activity. The rising hum indicates that it's a natural valley in its pattern of destruction, getting ready for another spike!

Likewise the Killing Machine raises its other arm and points down at its own feet, flaming machinery bolted to the back beginning to scream in a rising pitch... and this time it's not burning out and torching itself but surging into the weaponry proper!

The remaining pair of goons fortune enough to exist between the reckless machine gun fields creep up to cover, full well turning their backs to half the group, and try to help their boss by opening fire on Narinth with their rifles! They chortle stupidly as bullets catch her for 1 Damage and the wild gunfire forces her back in a 1 Square Push to -B3!

Drazyn: This would violate Lulu's Marks, though they're at range from her the entire time.

: As the last one in the Bumper, Winfred can at least drive it. He comes in over comms: "Hey! We've still got that EMP that SEBASTIAN rigged up! I can at least do that much! Should I fire?!" ... And at what? The Bumper can pull up a bit and aim at a surprising bit of the cavern but that's likely to change if the Thumper keeps causing cave ins!

The messy end of the gith captain actually scares Drazyn for a moment, but as Lulu chomps down on their mangled corpse, letting the two halves drop down her maw, he figures she's probably fine for now. If nothing else she's enjoying all the exercise.

Like a fine-oiled machine the two of them rush forward. Drazyn darts to the side of the furthest grunt, batting his gun aside with his own dagger, pointing the blaster pistol and his chest and shooting a small but smoldering hole through their heart; meanwhile, his pet has chomped the other soldier and left him a screaming, dying mess clutching the amputated stump that used to be his arm. It's almost an afterthought for the great beast; she has seen a more worthy target and is eager to try challenge it.

Her roar echoes across the battlefield, as she sinks her teeth into the machine's metal hide and jerks her neck to the side, sending the entire thing tumbling in the dust with a flick of her powerful muscles! Drazyn couldn't be more proud.

"Winnie, shut that drat Thumper down! Seems like these brain-rotten idiots want to bury us so bad they don't give a poo poo if they end up in the grave right with us!" Fed up with the lack of punch that her sleek high tech electromagnetic gun offered, Narinth breaks out her trusty old, crude and heavy, illegally modified shotgun and angrily slams a pair of oversized slugs packed with extra powder into it.

"The gently caress did you call me!?" Narinth shouts at the Killing Machine, having successfully worked herself into a frenzy to the point of almost frothing at the mouth. "WE'LL SEE WHO THE KNIFE-EAR IS AFTER I SKULLFUCK YOUR EARHOLE WITH MY DAGGER!" She leaps up at the big walker, climbs up to cockpit level, and proceeds to make good on her threat in one swift motion by drawing her dagger and slamming it into the side of pilot's head! Firm grip secured, she levels the shotgun held in her other hand and squeezes the trigger. The powder in the overloaded shell ignites and a deafening thunderous crack rings out as she blasts a sizeable hole in the other killing machine! The powerful recoil throws her away from the walker, ripping her dagger loose in the process. As she lands on her feet, Narinth sheathes her dagger with a wicked bloodthirsty grin.

Growling under her breath, Bella raises a hand and slams it down, jagged lines of caustic torn space ripping into the mech. Sparks fly as the inner mechanisms are torn and the cabin dome begins to crack and shatter, the mech driven down into an obviously incredibly vulnerable position as the rest of the party gathers to gank the irritating fool.

Her attention strays to the guns, and she conjures a sort of stalagmitic hexagonal crystal formation of warped space from the ground, masking off part of the shooting gallery from the torrent of bullets.

Move in a bit of a loop to reach D7 and then retreat to E6. Attack Killing Machine with offensive amalgam, 6 ᴅᴏᴜʙʟᴇᴄʀɪᴛ, dealing 6+1=7 damage, and then KM is Immobilized (save ends) and takes Ongoing 2 Damage (save ends), and is moved 1 south with control boost. Finally, role power Terrain to designate D11 as full cover, which I believe should go both ways and cut that yellow hazard in half?

Unleashing violent plumes of frame from the back the Killing Machine accelerates and slams its clawed arm to the floor, detonating its barely intact cannon arm simultaneously, aimed at the same spot! An explosion of fire, force and erupting streams of nanite pour over everything around KM, [url=https://orokos.com/roll/1007130]blasting Penelope and Narinth backwards for 4 HP[/b], shredding Penelope's haz suit protections and adding +1 Nanite Infection to all three! The floor cratered beneath the felled machine burns and breathes out mercurial vapors, rising static streams of the wild nanomachines, taking root in the stone despite the heat!

The remaining gun team goons on the East open fire, finding no targets but enjoying the sound of their gun. They haul it up to the North, chortling with manic glee at the prospect of cutting off escapes as things get complicated where the main machinery is!

: "YEEAARRRRGGHH!!! The KM erupts into a towering inferno, a living conflagration of screaming static and gith, rising from its temporary knee again and rampaging at random as it burns out!

: "HEADS UP!" Winfred aggressively drifts the Bumper up around some debris, literally riding halfway up the wall to clear it and pulls further forward, getting line of sight to fire the makeshift EMP SEBASTIAN cobbled together! It goes flying and detonates on the Thumper, a powerful magnetic burst damaging the Bumper and its cannon slightly, causing the Thumper to violently shut down in an irreversible way as it accelerates, fires incorrectly and damages itself.. and the KM to let up a howl of agony, a great deal of its static mass burning out prematurely!

Not all of it, though!

Just as the Killing Machine is about to slam its arms into the ground, Narinth fires her gauntlet-mounted grappling hook straight up, intending to pull herself out of danger and evade the attack. Instead, as she puts her weight on the cord a large stalactite is pulled loose from the crumbling ceiling, which comes crashing down right in front of her, fortuitously smashing into the Killing Machine and shielding her from the blast at the same time!

It does little to protect her from the streams of nanites covering the area, however...

"Fucker is toast. MOVE IT!" Narinth shouts as she leaps to the side and with a little help from SEBASTIAN XII's crew gets past the Githyanki bonfire. Emerging on the other side she doesn't take too kindly to the madly cackling gun crew's presence, and is especially displeased with the big gun they had pointed her way. Pressing forward, she primes and hurls an impact-fuzed grenade right at them, hitting dead on mark and blowing them to bits. Rushing up to take the space they had just occupied, she rounds the corner to find some cover from the Killing Machine's death throes.

Role: Quick Shift: Shift to -C3, then using SEBASTIAN XII's Scout to teleport to A7
Move: First to -B9, then after my attack continue to -A12 where I will end my turn.
Attack: Narinth attacks Gun (-B12) with Explosive Arrow
Roll: 🎲1d6 (6) = 6 + 1 (Blitzer) = 7
Result: Critical Hit! Effect and 2 times 🩸
Triggering the explosive immediately as a reaction.
Gun takes a total of 12 Damage, while Grunts -B13 & -A12 take 2 damage each and are taken out thanks to the Savage Striker feat.

Everyone: You take cover... and the Killing Machine rumbles after you, a cloak of nanites erupting from it in all directions, screaming static resonating in those of you infected as machines attempt to replicate and find a solution with mindless speed, only billowing away from their host before burning out! They carry the heat and the erupting gouts of exploding machinery and bursting debris make him a walking death zone!



Everyone with movement left gets away! Winfred reverses the Bumper and slams back abruptly for the sake of Drazyn and Lulu! The Killing Machine lets out a final howl as it rushes the center of the room and topples over as its internals burn out and one of its legs bursts to the side in a shotgun spray of flaming hell, the whole thing falling face first forward and exploding one final time on touchdown!



Good night, insane prince, and downward flights of falling rocks sing thee to thy rest.

... It's finally over. No more maniacs with guns, mechs or welded to either by mechanical space cancer. Speaking of! Narinth(and anyone else who hits Nanite Infection 2): Now that the haze of battle has passed you can hear a constant low voice mumbling in the distance. You can also hear a resonance pinging back to you further into the base but thankfully it's only one and it feels small. You have +1 to Attack while this infected, the nanites beginning to augment your executive function and keep your focus razor sharp. You also have +1 to Attacks made VS YOU, Battle and Social. You can feel their presence beginning to suppress something in you!

Everyone: (SEBASTIAN is retired to support/vehicle crew until Plutonis returns to playing.) Although the KM and Thumper are destroyed and the ways North are blocked there's about 1 and 1/2 other ways in to the East, as well as the Waterway entrance you passed on earlier outside. All that remains is to find the Mehmen hostages!

Marching order? After any other actions or plans, of course. (And give me the Strikes everybody got, individually and the total as a team!)

See if you can find a spare suit of the locker for yourself Winfred, I think me and the squad got contaminated by this...whatever it is. Let's find the hostages and get out of this hell hole...we might need shuttle extraction." Penny considers the incoming NCO "I TOLD YOU SO" while planning to not contest it but also to deflect onto more current matters.

Narinth gives herself a once-over before regrouping and finds nary a scratch from the scuffle, but the nanite infection had unmistakably gotten... worse? She knew that was the correct adjective for it, but the fact of the matter was that it only made her feel sharper, a little bit like she was on combat stims. As she quietly reloads her shotgun she can hear the droning in her head. She looks over to the wrecked body of the Killing Machine and recalls Gognan's words of warning about the nanites. She wrinkles her nose in a grimace.

Returning to the others, Narinth looks at Penelope. "Unless you're hiding one 'neath your cap you can forget about any shuttle, long distance comms hosed as they are. The only thing standing between us and a very long walk home right now is the Bumper, which is precisely why we shouldn't be throwing it into combat against unknown hostiles for no good reason."

"Speaking of which, nice driving, Winnie. Assumed you'd be mewling in the fetal position once the bullets started flying, seems like I didn't give you enough credit. But I trust you've had your fill of excitement for now, yeah? Ride that hunk of junk out of here before it gets crushed by a cave-in, or a roaming gang of Gith tech-freaks attempt to copulate and fuse with it. 'Bastian, why don't you tag along and see if you can get those guns back online."

"As for the rest of us..." Narinth turns her head and stares at some point in the distance, further into the base. She brushes her fingers against the disinfector she's carrying, making sure she hadn't lost it in the action. "Like the Captain said, let's go get those hostages. I'll take point."

The North-Eastern corridor looks as good as any, let's go there?

"Lulu! Lulu, darling, are you alright?!"

If Drazyn was in any way upset or bothered by the explosion of an extremely deadly robot, followed by a partial collapse of the building, he wasn't showing it. He had only eyes for Lulu, who was currently making a vaguely wet sound, and hucking as if she was about to hurl.

"My baby! Oh, my poor baby! What happened? You've been off for a few days but never this bad!" The nobledrow places a pair of calming hands on the beast's carapace, shimmering across her body like dragon scales. "Is it the nanites, my love? What did-"

Lulu couldn't answer, and Drazyn knew this. He communicated with her mostly through tactile sensations and a series of simple commands, associated with clicks of the tongues, snaps of his fingers and stomps on the ground that she could more or less undertand; and she communicated with him with chirping, hissing, clacking and the million small gestures that animals use to express their moods. In this case however, Lulu did something much more direct to express her feelings:

She spewed a thick coating of a wet, sploshy material into the air, and let it fall back onto her.

This continued for an handful of seconds, with Drazyn watching in fascinated admiration as this miracle of biology happened. He just barely had the wherewithal to take a step back not to get sprayed as well. Soon enough. Lulu was encased into a purple-green cocoon, shiny from the wet material that had only just now hardened; her owner placed an hand on it. I can feel her, he thought. She's in there. She's safe.

Drazyn knew this with the certainty that he knew that you couldn't breathe in space, but he couldn't have been able to explain why.

"Someone help me load her into the Bumper."

Narinth may have only very recently gotten to know Drazyn, but it had not taken long for her to learn to tune out his constant overbearing fussing over his carnivorous murder pet from outer space. But this time, something in the tone of his voice made her turn around and pay attention. What the absolute gently caress? She watches on in astonishment as the strange process goes on. Acutely aware that there was a real possibility that Lulu had succumbed to the nanites and that things were suddenly about to get very violent and very dangerous, her hand slowly wanders over to the weapon on her hip, ready to intervene. When it becomes clear that that was not the case and Drazyn asks for help, she instead quickly closes the distance to lend him a hand.

"This something we should be concerned about?" She gives him a look and asks. "...She alright?"

Drazyn grabs the bottom of the cocoon and lifts with his whole body, making sure to keep her steady. "She's going to be alright." He says, a dull certainty in his voice. "She just needs a little time to herself. It's natural." He rests his cheek against the smooth, still slightly damp surface of the cocoon. "Perfectly natural."

After a moment of silence and a deep sigh, he detaches himself. "Thank you for that. Truly. Now, let's see about these hostages, eh? We'll need to find a way to maneuver past that rubble, since clearing it out could take days."

Racing down the halls you come to a crude combination of metal fencing and internal power room, exposed wires connected by clamps to make holding cells. Still shapes wait in the darkness, visible only against the crackling light of erratic sparks and a hideous yellow glow, one of the flayed Gith looming over the violently torn remains of a mothen Mehmen. He holds the shoulders of the poor soul, static swirling around his head and surging up to his mouth as he seems to inhale or draw out a glistening orange viscera mingled with white-yellow static from the Mehmen. Suddenly his head snaps upright and he bellows!

: "SENSED YOU ON THE NETWORK, FRESH MEAT!! YOU AIN'T GETTING THESE'UNS!" His dialect is as crude as his malformed appearance, surging with the light of fresh nanites added to his personal... swarm? Aura? Awful all the same.

Narinth: In a blur of speed that defies reason his head unnaturally rockets around and his body follows, his hands clamping around your neck like a vice... and you can even see, from the corners of your eyes, as the fingers begin to merge together and the bones and outline of the creases solidify, surging static transforming his hands into a literal metal frame bit by bit to suit his need. You can feel your throat start to close, vision swim and your nerves burn...

Everyone: Music(Uninvited - Danger) You can all take one action. There's only room enough for two Attacks, the rest can be anything else such a Skills or Item use.

Narinth throws a left hook at the ugly fucker out of sheer reflex, slamming her gauntleted fist right into his face. Blasting him away with buckshot or slicing his throat open seemed like the obvious follow-up, but after witnessing first hand the kind of punishment the high ranking skulltists had been able to survive she wasn't so sure she'd come out ahead in that exchange. Gritting her teeth, she grabs his hands, or wrists, or whatever she can get her hands on, and musters all the strength she still had left to pry and bend and break herself free, knowing she didn't have long before the lack of oxygen making it to her brain would make her pass out.
