I love too have a 512GB micro SD that I use to hold all my media but I feel like if I use it too much it will fail

tbh it probably will. microsd and usb drives tend to have the junkiest flash. ive tried using both as boot disks for stuff and they wear out after a couple years

not saying it won't still happen but fwiw i do not buy cheap sd cards ever. i pretty much only at least buy name brand stuff because i don't want to lose my pics

the first one that conked out as my fileserver's boot disk was a kingston. the second one was a samsung evo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

now it has a sandisk in it that's doing ok, but i think im going to find a better solution in the future

do you have them set as read only?

imo keeping to brands like sandisk (which i use in my cameras) has been way more succesful long term than other cheaper brands but i don't use any of them as boot drives
