Victory and/or death!

Cool idea to show off this mission; I remember being rather impressed with it back then, but I didn't know it had so much depth to it.

Out of interest, have you tried some of the newer custom campaigns, such as the Revamp series or War of the Spider?

No I haven't heard of any of those. The last time I played custom campaigns (or worked on mine) was quite a few years ago now.

I had a ton of fun with that map back in high school. I definitely never beat it; farthest I got was shortly after the second bonus round. There was... not an official forum, exactly, but it had a dedicated megathread on some Warcraft 3 site which I followed for a while. This would have been around 2004ish, when it was still a mod; I think Blizzard eventually hired the guy. I remember thinking he came across as standoffish, but that I couldn't entirely blame him because the questions and suggestions in the thread were almost always horrible. On the level of "omg a navy seal faction would be tight, lets gooooooo" and the like.

Neat, I never had the chance to talk to the original developer. I'd certainly have some questions for him like "Is it actually possible to win with Specialist builder? Because I've dug into the game in the world editor, done the exact math on every tower's DPS, and determined that no tower for that whole race is up to snuff, which fits with how I can never, ever win with them."

I used to be the editor of a moderately popular map myself and there were certainly some dumb suggestions on the level of that navy seal one!

The minigames are very cool and creative. I imagine they're a blast with a whole team of players.

Definitely! And with an opposing team as well. Some of the options and spells that might not seem great in singleplayer are a lot better in multiplayer. Like Shockwave in the 300 Blind Mice minigame where I mostly just used Taunt to pull all the critters into range and then killed them with Thunderclap. With an enemy team, you can ruin their plans by shooting a shockwave at them after they Taunt and before they Thunderclap, thus stealing all their gold!

Both have some pretty interesting gameplay ideas; for example, the Curse of the Blood Elves Revamp campaign gives the Blood Elves a mana-addiction mechanic that kind of changes the whole value of mana points for them, and War of the Spider has a Nerubian faction that gets all their units from eggs instead of buildings.

This is probably all a bit off-topic, but I'm just kind of impressed by all the ideas people still have for a game as old and thoroughly-modded as this one :shobon:
