Try to get a couple of levels of cover master before the boss, then rush behind a pillar and camp there. Or go vampyre, and keep topping up your health from the smaller enemies.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually used my Adrenaline button when playing a Marine melee build. Instantly losing up to half of your melee damage seems like an incredibly risky bid. I’m glad that they baked Bleed and Pain resistance into Marine traits since those two things are what will kill you every time when trying to melee demons

I'm pretty certain I have no excuse for YASD.partial morgue posted:Mark Taggart, level 13 Marine, I did some experimenting and some mostly unrelated exploration earlier in my run. If you can avoid burning to death (I ended up making fire resistant armor), the Cryroreaver relic is pretty fantastic. Gives generic weapons chill, and boosts generic Asterius Manufactured weapons freeze. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the final levels Asterius Sentries won't open the special doors for you, only the ones from previous floors (plus they burn through a ridiculous five multi-tools compared to the prior ones). A move speed of under .5 base is quite nice. As to CRI, it was adjusting to plasma enemies, playing an hour after midnight, general hubris, and the lack of the multi-tools I could have used to bring my protection up to more acceptable levels. I regret this death. Not rage, but sorrow.

I've done it once as an army of darkness shotgun marine. I just got really lucky with demon spawns. You have to be okay with not 100% killing and looting everything, which is terrible for my OCD. The Black Site invasion is a lot easier to do since you can leave a demon alive until right after CRI invades then run for the exit. If you kill all the demons before CRI arrives, you fail, so keep that in mind. Realistically, it's just not worth doing, especially since you can get the same reward by having spare key cards or multi tools and CRI allies aren't particularly game changing at that point.

Started trying to knock out some nightmare wins. This is only my 2nd ever, and first since they changed the gibbing rules for it. Abused the hell out of the fact that you can see exalted enemies' sparklies out of vision to blast them with excessively long-range shotgun blasts. MVP ammo station in shadow halls 3, where I bought like 400 shotgun shells. Also another diamond badge done. Was powerful enough to go through N! dante inferno. quote:resistentialism, level 18 Scout,

So quick question. I know some of the special weapons, like bloodletter, are really only usable on specific builds like survivor marine. The items I absolutely can't figure out are the two nailguns and medifiber armor. Nailguns are bad since using multitools for ammo is terrible use of them and very they limited anyhow. Medifiber just feels like a trap pick, it's bad for the same reasons necrotic armor is good. Am I missing anything about these items?

Off the top of my head, bulk mod for auto-repair on the medi-fiber armor? It’s got better stats than basic armor for the same dodge penalty. I could see potentially using both of these items on an Onslaught marine. Perhaps not permanently, but for a good chunk of Europa. Pierce damage too. I’ve had very specific runs where I carried around 10-11 multi tools before using them as part of a specific route. If I stumble across a nail gun on said routes, I see no reason to sit on as many, wouldn’t mind clearing branch ends, special levels, and breaching new floors/vaults with.

Nailgun is mostly a thing you pick up and use up if you have a spare weapon slot and try not to instinctively reload, they're very strong weapons temporarily.

These all look good. Bladedancer getting + move speed is especially welcome. Having no guaranteed way to increased move speed on a melee character was completely awful. That change alone makes Bladedancer far more viable.

I'm doing a blademaster Tech run to try out the new buffs and playing Angel of Light Travel for maximum roadrunner. Changes seems very good. I had previously only gotten a single win with Melee tech despite many tries, and that one was pretty close to losing until I found Medusa's eye in blacksite. Medusa's eye is ludicrously OP and between that and toxic smoke I barely even got into melee range after that. This run is going well even without getting any particularly noteworth drops. Anyhow, I found something very interesting while doing some inventory juggling. I happened to drop a full medic kit while standing on top of a small combat kit, and was very confused when both disappeared. I chalked it up to some manner of obscure glitch, and then notice I had a large combat kit in my inventory. I am 90% sure I didn't have that before. It's possible I just made a mistake, but I will test it the next time I find those two items again. Edit: Tried it again and it didn't work, maybe it was some kind of glitch the first time and I had just forgotten that I already had a large combat kit in my inventory. A solid run. I got an ancient sword off the IO boss and switching to that off modded up katanas was a mistake. Even with 20 high base damage and +50% damage against demons, I think double katanas was better if only for utility mods. I ended up burning a lot of resources between using that until I got the Soulstealer. Also swordmaster did a lot of damage to me, which normally doesn't happen. I wonder if he got buffs?quote:Chop Chop, level 19 Technician,

quote:Mark Taggart, level 18 Marine, First nightmare win since release, Angel of Doom actually makes nightmare easier in a way since the bonus damage from dodge makes it easier to gib in the early game. Everything past Europa was basically a victory lap, it turns out being immune to almost every status makes the game pretty easy. That and having absurd damage bonuses, I was consistently hitting for thousands of damage by the end.

So I haven't played in a while and I've been enjoying a lot of the new changes. Definitely like that most branches have an objective of some sort to really differentiate them. On that note, however, can someone tell me how the hell you actually do the Callisto Mines objective? I get that you have to get to the summoning circle before the timer runs out, it just feels borderline impossible; you get basically just enough time to get to the circle while fighting maybe one or two enemies. And unfortunately, what usually happens is I start running there -> I get aggro on an enemy and fight him -> the noise from that fight attracts like 5 more enemies -> I run out of time and now have an elite on my rear end. It seems incredibly difficult to pull off outside of like, just straight up going invisible with scout. Honestly the objectives for Io Blacksite and CRI Labs also seem similarly impossible; doing the objectives there seem fine, but killing less than 6 CRI units for the CRI Clearance seems like a herculean task. Oh also, I'm playing on Ultraviolence, which is probably part of my problem. Arzaac fucked around with this message at 22:39 on Dec 29, 2022 |

There’s a few different tricks, but assuming you’re a marine, your best bet is a grenade launcher and a bare minimum of reloading. The other class abilities are a bit more useful than what the marine gets, but at the optional reduction to weapon slots/convenient launcher. I haven’t been home since the last update, so I’m going to leave it there. I will say that previously, the black site and cri objectives weren’t important if you were hoarding your keycards.

God I just died to Harbinger to what felt like bullshit. Had a good run going, Sharpshooter Techician with a Rail Rifle. Plenty of healing items left, fighting his spider tank form...and I went from 51 to 0 in one move. I thought that seemed pretty odd, and looking at the death log, he hit me with all 3 hits from his ranged attack, plus a Cryoreaver I didn't see got a double move on me. I would've survived if even one of these 5 attacks missed me, while I was in cover, with cover master. I guess the lesson is to tab every single turn to see if a new demon has spawned, but man. What a terrible way to go! I'll get an ultraviolent win one of these days...

It was not, it was just a regular rail rifle shot, which has a speed of 1s. Cryoreavers just have a global speed of 110%, which means they'll occasionally double turn you (assuming you don't have any speed upgrades).

Continuing my quest to get a Tech win on Ultraviolent...I think I'm consistently getting better, but man this game's really difficult. Quick question: is Entrenchment garbage? Every other master on Tech makes sense (maybe not Fireangel) but I feel like I always die with Entrenchment. The defensive bonuses are nice, but I feel like I just get slowly ground down, as it takes a while to actually kill something and I'm just dying from a million individual hits of damage. Last run I got a 44 JAC SMG and Hammerhead and just...felt like nothing helped, I just slowly ran out of supplies and died.

I'm pretty mad at myself, I had everything I needed for an easy tech UV win, with some really nice finds. Only I threw it away thanks to lazy play. Found a ridiculous deagle that had JoviSec for +25% critical damage on top of spawning with +50% chance of a critical. So I decided I had to go headshot/marksman to leverage it. I was flush with multitools thanks to getting sysops at level 3, and decided to to go Biolabs to leverage it, got bleed, pain and acid resistances and the exalted damage. I found combat armor in Biolabs with the CCB modifer that gives move speed. Everything is modded up nicely and I have the damage to drop almost every enemy in one shot, but this made me very sloppy. On Io 3 I am running around in the open like a dumbass when a 3 wide door at midrange opens with a bunch a bunch of marines behind it. Rather then doing the smart thing and dropping smoke, I try to backtrack to cover completely exposed and drop from 80 health to dead in a hail of plasma. I would have been fine if I was playing a class with hellrunner, but lesson learned. Tech 100% has to stay near cover at all times, and smoke anytime I am in the open.

God, I feel that. I had an incredibly similar run, just with me picking up a Mag Pistol, into an incredibly tricked out 7.62 sidearm (that I just replaced with a CRI blaster, lmao). Also went to Biolabs due to having an incredible amount of multitools, and was feeling really cocky because I could one-shot everyone. One-shotting everyone, as it turns out, does not defend me from an entire firing squad of CRI Marines.
