there's lots of value in examining parts of things you do like that are kinda rough or that you don't like as much. but also if you just really really hate it there's no real reason to agonize over it a lot, it's fiction, it's not real unchangeable events. lord knows no amount of thinking about the episode of season 2 of rinne no lagrange where kyouno gets sexually harassed over never having been able to gently caress a guy is going to make it more than a really bad left field gag that contributes nothing to the overall themes or dynamics of the story i think it's worth giving thoughts to things that are kinda rough on the surface but actually have some cool ideas if you dig a bit deeper, but if it's just blatantly stupid and flies in the face of everything else about the show for a lame gag or w/e you're not going to dig out many thoughts besides "well that randomly sucked" The Colonel fucked around with this message at 16:27 on Aug 31, 2021 |

actually i just remembered one show i actually do kind of just pretend the last few episodes of never happened is oniisama e. the last five episodes have a couple interesting notes about moving on from loss but it's also 90% just "how sad... if only she could have lived, to see us all realize we were never actually gay". i dont like melt if i think about it though i just think it sucks, but that's just 70s yuri

there are some amusing gags in vlad love but whenever i think back on it it is really weird that it engages with the yuri aspect the least of any yuri comedy i've ever watched. especially since oshibudo and adashima aired in the same year vlad love started coming out, both of which are, kinda way better shows even for adashima's painfully slow pacing and how very little of the story it actually covers. at least adashima is more consistently funny and has better side characters. that said it's not a terrible show in the moment of watching (outside of a couple eps, i never want to see the flashback ep or jellyfish ep again) but i just kinda feel increasingly annoyed by it The Colonel fucked around with this message at 07:41 on Sep 1, 2021 |

you could also just play fate/extra or something, those games are their own corner of the setting that can give you an idea of the characters and mechanics while functioning well as a self-contained storyline and the remake of the first one is looking pretty good

imo to be a true suda fan you have to play flower sun and rain, because that game is the pure definitive proof that suda will just make an entire game that is not fun to play as a joke and that's all there is to it and nothing particularly deeper, except it's also necessary for understanding more intimate aspects of the character writing of later games and he references back to it constantly

azumanga daioh's anime is a mixed bag tbh so i don't count it as that much of an essential thing to watch. kaori is cute but out of every appearance the show adds, which is like the only big thing it adds over the manga, only two of them aren't followed up with a wacky gag about kimura sexually harassing her and her funniest gag is in the anniversary chapters that aren't animated in any form and almost feels deliberately created to give her a level of closure and like, actual funny writing that the anime completely neglects to give her since she's not even included in the final episode in a significant way

beat mugen's story in the samurai champloo ps2 game tonight, and it literally just ends with the game-original main character doing a big speech about how they're setting up for his climactic ancient ritual that will solve the plot and then mugen and jin fight giant robots and ask him what the plot of the game was because neither of them were around to see any of the important parts of it because they both had entirely unrelated subplots to deal with
