"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." - some rear end in a top hat, probably

let's face it, the world loving sucks right now. be it climate, cops, or covid, you have dozens of threads in this forum that you can boil your brain in for a similar result: everything's hosed and the only reasonable solution is to take drugs and dissociate. i'd like to offer that yeah, maybe things are hosed. however, that doesn't mean that we can't try and do a little good for each other as the world gets stupider on a daily basis.

maybe you've got a skill that you've picked up over the years that you can share with another poster. maybe you've got a job opening at your place of employment that can be just what someone else is looking for. we're all across the world and span race, class, age, and profession. maybe, just maybe, your posting could genuinely help someone you don't know.

What's the Point of This Thread?
this thread is for those of us that have picked up skills that have helped us navigate this capitalist hellscape and want to share them with others. it's also a place for goons who might need a hand beyond the goonbux & mental health threads. who knows, maybe someone doomscrolling here can help them.

know of a WFH job that someone can use to get out of the plague mines? share a post!
heard of a way for goons desperate to put something positive into the world from their computers? great, post it!
need some assistance? ask a bunch of twitter-addled leftists! chances are someone here's been through what you're going through too!

:siren:THREAD SUGGESTIONS:siren:

:siren:- please remember that there are perverts that trawl this forum looking to doxx leftists. please be sparing with personal information and move to pms/offsite communication when appropriate.:siren:
- don't forget that there are other boards here with specialty information too! they're always a good place to start but if the OP from 2008 doesn't help you, don't hesitate to drop a post in here!

if you've got something to share:
do me a favor and DM me so i can quote your original post so it gets signal boosted! if possible, please consider using the following format:
- your name on SA
- what you're sharing
- any restrictions on what you're sharing (ex. if its a job, is it only hiring in certain states? if it's a free class, what restrictions are on it?)
- a good way to get a hold of you (dms, a dummy email you've set up, etc)
- what you'll need from people contacting you to help them!

if you need some help:
:justpost:
i'd strongly recommend that you be as specific as possible so people reading the thread trying to help can help you. just be sure not to give any potentially doxxable information!

We are looking for electrical, controls, mechanical, and civil engineers, as well as experienced engineering drafters and managers. In general we're hiring at all levels from entry to 20+ years. Generally require a bachelors from an ABET-accredited institution, but experience can be substituted if it can be substantiated. Priority goes to those holding or pursuing a PE cert.

This is for a multinational with offices in dozens of countries. I am mainly only privy to our hiring in the US. We have positions all over the country but I have primary knowledge of our projects in MD, VA, NY, and DC.

PM me in particular if you have experience in water/wastewater, environmental, or energy projects as a design engineer. I'll do my best to give you the shortest path to an interview. Happy to review and critique resumes so you have the best shot.

-We have roughly 150 positions open right now in all departments from Engineering/Operations/Sales/Energy Trading/BD/HSEQ and all common support functions (Legal, HR, IT, Procurement, Accounting) - We have quadrupled in size over the past 6 years and it just keeps going. Unfortunately, there arent many (if any) entry level roles.

i work for a tech company based in nyc with a satellite office in the uk. prior to the pandemic only the engineering team was fulltime remote but when covid hit the execs did an actual goddamn sensible thing and decided that the whole company was now a remote company forever

we've got 200+ employees and are planning to hire something like 70 more by the end of the year. due to the nature of our product we ended up being pretty well positioned for a covid hellscape and we've seen a lot of growth

we've got marketing jobs, engineering and QA jobs, design/ux jobs, sales jobs, and even a UK-based tech support job. i've been with this company going on 7 years now, which is an eternity in tech, because i actually like the people i work with a lot and the culture here is better than any other place i've been. not that it doesn't have its problems but like, for example, the CEO is well aware i'm a socialist that wants to destroy capitalism and that somehow made him value my opinion even more?

anyone should feel free to PM me with what sort of position they're looking for and i can point them to the job listing(s) and put them into our hiring system

in addition to $16 an hour, it's $19 an hour on weekends, they're sending her a computer, and they're gonna pay her $60 a month to cover our internet(!!!!) on top of all that. This is a sweet gig, even if she winds up on the phone all day or whatever like they claim will happen. It sounds like she'll just basically be reading off lists of charges on cards being like 'is this one you? is this one you?'.

I have a wfh with a big multinational. I have access to the internal job board.

The company is a fairly good European based corporate citizen as far as any one of them can be. They have announced a new normal of permanent wfh or discretionary hybrid for any employees world wide. Once you get a year on grade, they will visa sponsor to pretty much anywhere in the world. I can refer internally to any division although I have no say in any hiring positions.

For myself, I'm am EE (abet, no PE) in non power related applications. Have 10 years xp in industrial automation, controls, scada, robots, cnc machine building and a handful of other things.

If anyone is looking for an industrial computer toucher who is actually pleasant to be around and shows well ...I'd be happy to hear about it.

There's a gig opened up on my team, full time WFH (we went WFH before the pandemic so no going back), salaried, I wanna say starts around $49k but it might be more, must be in the US. Call center admin, specifically in workforce management and more specifically in managing Avaya CMS and 1x phone logins and call recording through Mattersight, and coordinating with extremely loving insane telecom engineers. Lots of meetings and spreadsheets, very fast-paced, bosses can be pretty demanding. big company and all the bullshit that comes with that. The bosses claim they want experience but I can probably talk them out of it if you have any kind of technical background. hmu in pm next couple of days if you're into it and I'll get you the application info, i'll put in a good word for good posters

They have 4 large different divisions and half a million employees world wide, so there is a job for almost anything in the business sector. Marketing, accounting, logistics, support, field techs, engineering, project managers, you name it. It's all industrial / energy adjacent. They tend to hire in country for work a day folks but you can very easily use it to escape demon cracker nation, even if single and over 40. There are thousands of jobs on the internal board. Folks are welcome to PM me if interested and I can run a query to see what they have for some ones domain area. I can search by country as well.

as someone who's a resume-looker for a living:

a bad answer: lie about it (as someone who just turned down someone with this, don't turn a third of your phone screen into me reconstructing your resume. this will become 100% of your phone screen because i'll kill your application with you on the phone and not bother asking any actual questions)

a good answer: be upfront about the job and be honest about why you're leaving. i'd only really give a poo poo about former work history if when i ask "why are you leaving?", it turns into a 10 minute rant about how much of a bitch your boss was (happens more than you'd think)

a great answer (esp for UI goons): be upfront about your job, honest about why you're leaving, and what you're taking away from the experience (UI goons: tell me about what you've been doing sitting on your rear end on MUH TAX DOLLERS for a year+)

for my company we're working on all 50 states, just that filing paperwork is kind of a bitch. i'll be updating it as i get more info (we just moved into MD & PA last week, for example)

also, we'll be mailing you your computer and stuff, so you'd probably want to get it. that being said, we're aware people lie on our forms and we're on the lookout for people trying to be sneaky. also, the big reason why i'm so lassiez-faire about requirements is because if you accept an offer, we have background check specialists that will gently caress you if you try and pull a quick one later on in the process. if you're gonna try and roll the dice, i don't know you and i won't help you

Ah thank you. Didn't know if it was an imminent thing or more of a "check back in a year" thing.

And about the address thing, I mostly wanted to know how much the company actually cares, and since they do I'm happy to oblige them and wait until they can offer employment in my state before applying. I'm mostly getting antsy because my work has already tried to hide several cases of infection and I'm trusting them less and less as delta ramps up. Not too worried about background checks unless they care about weed misdemeanors, which I'm always upfront about but also prefer not to waste anyone's time needlessly over.

Quick backstory: I have a very specific niche MA and I have been out of the work force for some time due to family and health issues. Right now I'm taking care of my dad who has dementia but I'll likely be getting some in-home help with that soonish, which means I can return to the workforce.

I'm looking for a nonprofit sector job, preferably in something like development but I'll take almost anything to get my foot in the door. I would prefer part-time for right now but open to full time.

Problem: the gap in my resume. I don't really know how to address this & fear that any employer would just trash my resume upon seeing it.

I also would really need someone to look over my resume and maybe give me pointers about a cover letter.

There is a job I have in mind that I might apply for, though it'd mostly be for practice since I don't know if I could even accept the job if I were offered it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
