It's literally just toasted sugar which explains why it tastes fabulous. You take sugar and do the thing that makes everything taste good to it.

I don't know if there is a specific step you have to stop at but yeah it's up there with "boil a can of condensed milk to make caramel" in terms of knowledge that is probably equal parts impressive and ruinous for your dietary health.

I don't know if it as commonly used outside the UK for some reason though, or at least as a thing you buy and use at home rather than in commercial baking.

sort of; i've seen lyle's for sale in north america but for the most part we use corn syrup or molasses as a replacement which serves the same purpose. commercially it's often straight glucose syrup instead.

What is the propellant in normal squirty cream because if that's also nitrous oxide I feel like that presents a problem.

I assume the reason you use nitrous oxide is because carbon dioxide would acidify the cream and curdle it?

it would make it taste acidic but it's mostly that nitrous is much less soluble in water, so it immediately comes out when you release the pressure, thus aerating the cream. carbonated cream would probably pour out into a puddle and fizz

A royal spokesperson has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II sent a message to Kim Jong-un last week.

The Queen got in touch with Kim on 7 September, two days before the 73rd anniversary of its founding as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, according to The Daily Beast.

The message read: "As the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea celebrate their national day, I send my good wishes for the future."

A royal spokesperson explained: "It was a message sent by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) on behalf of Her Majesty to the people of North Korea on their national day."

Far-right group Britain First registers as a political party

boob posted:

Party leader Paul Golding said he was "ecstatic" and would start "building the electoral arm of our party".

The party was deregistered in 2017 after it failed to renew its registration on time.

An Electoral Commission spokesperson said the party's application had "met the legal criteria".

The watchdog assesses potential new parties to ensure they comply with legal obligations and that their proposed names, descriptions and emblems do not risk misleading or confusing voters.

Parties also need to show that their constitutions or membership policies do not breach equalities law.

The Electoral Commission does not consider a group's political views when deciding whether or not to register a party.

Britain First campaigns on an anti-immigration message and has called for a halt to all further immigration except in specific cases.

The group has developed a strong online following, attracting attention when one of its anti-Islamic videos was retweeted by the then-US President Donald Trump.

However it has performed less well electorally, with Mr Golding securing only 1.2% of the vote when he stood in the 2016 London mayoral election.

In 2018, Facebook removed the group's pages saying it had repeatedly violated its community standards.

The decision came shortly after Mr Golding and the party's deputy leader Jayda Fransen were found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment.

In 2019, the group was fined £44,200 by the Electoral Commission for "multiple breaches" of electoral law, including a failure to keep accurate financial records or donation reports.
