Just tons of rain in this part, but I heard south of me got hit way worse.

The only time a real tornado touched down in this immediate area it was at my kids’ elementary school and they got to see it, the lucky little shits. I always miss out on the good stuff.

Speaking of good stuff - I decided to give myself a birthday present this year for the first time in a long time. I’m a loooooooooongtime Metallica fan and one of their 40th anniversary shows is going to be played on my 40th birthday so it’s like fate that I should go. I convinced my wife to take a long weekend trip sans kids to San Francisco in December. She has never been to CA and she’s never been to a big concert.

This is the first year since I started this job that I’ve been able to take any real time off and now I just planned my third vacation in one year. Feels good, man.

I get wanting to make sure you're not a serial killer, but in my case I'll also be driving for work, so they need my MVR.

Which takes 5 seconds to get as part of a background check. I pulled my own from the state in a couple of minutes just to make sure there's nothing on there.

HR called me yesterday evening and said the background check company is waiting for two counties in the other two states I've lived in to get back to them. "I've never lived anywhere except Texas" Oh, did you maybe get any tickets recently in those states? "Uh, I was 7 when I was in one of them, and didn't touch a car the week I was in the other... 20 years ago". Checkr now shows a completion date of next week.. it was showing by end of day yesterday. :argh: They just did a background check on me a few months ago for Uber, and it took a few minutes. :iiam:

For the storm on the 19th, we were moving the kids downstairs, and I was going to get my son after setting up the pack and play in case we needed it. My wife called out "The sky is green and I hear the train". She grew up in Wisconsin, so she knew exactly what that meant. We both knew somewhere close was going to get hosed, and yep, right over by 309.

Though this time I'm pretty sure the Tornado Warning alert was lost in the 20 loving flood warnings. I got it from a goddamn Nextdoor email. Nextdoor isn't supposed to be important!

It's a direct clone of the DxRacer called the GxRacer and from what I can tell they are identical and probably come from the same factory that white labels these chairs for all these different companies (clutch, etc).

Spent an hour and a half last night on the phone to an old friend, it turned into impromptu therapy, didn't realise I had so much bottled up. Nothing fixed but talking helps. It's her turn next, my turn to listen.

Also finally got the wife's people carrier back from the shop, £2k bill for head gasket, including the injector that snapped, the vacuum pump that disintegrated and the turbo that failed on the test drive the morning they were due to give it back to me. I honestly think the garage lost out on this deal.

And if anyone sees me so much as looking at French cars ever again just knock me out. gently caress this thing, gently caress tiny over-stressed turbo diesels, gently caress manufacturers who don't put real temp gauges in their cars, gently caress anyone who dumps snake oil into their cars to try and disguise and sell the problem on.
