Chests from capturing outposts are automatically opened, I believe. I remember receiving the items inside even when I explicitly ignored them. Urbosa is pretty fun, though I didn't use her much till I unlocked some move upgrades and additional lightning gauge - always found her charging gauge a bit too clunky to use with the starting amount.

The Great Fairies are one of my favourite characters to play in this game. They're big, slow and lumbering and you'll have to get used to taking a few hits, but they hit like a truck and their unique actions are very powerful if you can leverage them properly. They don't do so well if you're fighting in cramped, narrow spaces with not a lot of room to dodge, though.
