In case you're still checking this thread - I suspect the logical part of you already knows this, but you didn't betray him. Euthanasia is the only truly selfless thing we do for our pets over the entire span of their life. Every kindness you paid him over the years was partly for him, sure, but in a very real way it was for you too. You liked seeing him happy. You liked keeping him healthy because it meant you got more time with him.

This time though, you did something that truly was just for him. He was in pain, and you took all that pain and all that suffering from him, and laid it on yourself.
