I know people probably (re: definitely) don't care about the story in a Sonic game, but it's funny to me that Shadow feels like he got the most lovingly crafted story beats compared to Sonic, whose story is ironically the least important in a title bearing his name beyond the fact that Elise likes him by the end.


Though I suppose the same can't be said for stages. :v:

I don't really care about the story either, but it is definitely something to notice. I think it's definitely a symptom of Sonic having a much shallower character than Shadow to begin with, and after a few stories that basically read "he stays positive in the face of overwhelming odds and wins through a mixture of force of will/friends/goku", the well is a bit dry. Whereas Shadow got an entire game just before this one that, while absolute horseshit on the story front, showed a whole bevy of possible directions for the character. At once. For better and definitely worse.

Generally, I'd say that there's good aspects of a Shadow-focused story in Adventure 2, Heroes* and StH, and somehow 06 manages to synthesize those into an almost coherent whole, and the "almost" comes more from this being 06 than the story being particularly badly written or anything

*Omega imo is a slamdunk success character to pair with Shadow because he counters Shadow's "but what if I am an Android" idiocy with "BEING A ROBOT RULES ACTUALLY" and answers his "but what if I turn on humanity for they are scum..." with "FRONT ROW SEATS I'LL BRING THE POPCORN".

Am I crazy, or are some parts of the flame core layout (particularly the cave areas near the wall running segments) similar to level segments in Shadow the Hedgehog?

You mean the lava lakes with moving platforms? Can you timestamp what you mean? I'm pretty familiar with Shadow but didn't notice anything standing out in particular.

Aaah, now I see what you mean! Yes, indeed, that's similar to setups in the black comet levels, where you move up and down those levels with red goo or springs, and it's also never quite clear what is progress and what is a hidden corner maybe for a key :D. Those levels are terrible and so is Flame Core, so there's another similarity.

Unleashed's targeting reticle is a godsend. And that finale would fit any act 5 or 6 of Unleashed, no need for the DLC. I remember one of these being pure rails going in a circle, hovering over a bottomless pit.

That's Windmill Isle Act 3! One of the first optional Acts you can play, that really impressed me when I first saw it and convinced me that Unleashed is a Good Game. Also, it has the same setup as most (all?) Unleashed circular Acts, where you have to go through the circle thrice but it changes every time. That's so good!!!

Yeah, that would be the one, it ruled. Same for the one in the city are where you run on narrow skyscraper paths.

I would say that HALF of Unleashed is a good game.

All of Silver is already recorded (minus some S-Ranks I have to redo), but I might take a bit of a break and build up a backlog of those videos. Always takes a lot of time to edit long group videos, especially for Silver's long-rear end levels.

While we're waiting, a question - I've split the Kingdom Valley video into one live + blind one and a post-commentary S-Rank one. Most of Silver will have to be post-commentary S-Ranks because 4/5 are actually very interesting wrt to the challenge of getting said S-Ranks.

Do you prefer those as separate videos, so you can watch first one then the other, or do you prefer having one big video so you can take a whole update in at once? I realize a lot of people are going to watch videos on the side while doing other stuff, so it being just one big one would help that habit. No judgment.

Yeah I also like both, but I really liked the Kingdom Valley one with the analysis, but the level supports it.

Man, Aquatic Base always gives me PS1 Spiderman flashbacks, that was a good underwater base.
