It's bad enough that departments with no expertise in pandemics are releasing reports on COVID, it's inexcusable that they're being kept classified so they can't be peer reviewed in public while being used to support whatever conspiracy people want them to.

Oracle posted:The Dept of Energy is actually in charge of 17 national laboratories including Argonne, Brookhaven, Lawrence Livermore, Fermi and the NVBL and sponsors research at hundreds of universities through the nation. OK but their focus is not on public health or disease outbreaks. It doesn't seem surprising that they concluded the issues were with the possibility they did have experience with, lab security, but the responsible thing to do would be to defer to the NIH, which also has experience in virology, epidemiology and public health. Silver2195 posted:One problem with this argument is that the experts on virology are exactly the people who have the most reasons to be biased against stricter limits on virology research. (Not saying this proves a lab leak.) That argument goes both ways. NIH seems less likely to be affected by that conflict of interest since it is so closely associated with the biomedical research community so it can expect any reports to be closely scrutinized by academics. The DOE has potential conflicts of interest related to their responsibilities for national security and weapons development so they don't have to try to be as transparent and impartial.

Absolutely zero reaction from the Pfizer while previously I'd have chills and a fever for exactly 1 day after. The Moderna dose is much higher than the Pfizer dose (100 μg versus 30 μg) https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2023/05/moderna-beats-pfizer-among-two-dose-covid-vaccine-recipients-aged-60-and-over/ Moderna’s elicits a stronger immune response and might be better at preventing breakthrough infections. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/search/research-news/14645/

spankmeister posted:Are we still calling it breakthrough infections? in 2023? We've known the vaccines don't prevent infection past a few months for a while now. Yes since there's a substantial difference between the severe form of covid and the minor form that vaccinated people can get.
