Allan: On one hand, you wrote “The United States of America I knew and loved is gone … eaten from the inside by metastasized lies fed to furious people in forgotten places.” On the other hand, you intentionally had a child in the last few years. What would you say to someone who feels conflicted about having a baby right now?

Weir: I would say we need all the good help we can get. And if you believe that your child is going to be a net positive for humanity, go for it. I think our basic purpose in life is to procreate. Nature wants replication and hopefully improvement for the next generation.

He's right. If you're not having kids you are failing to help change the planet

Kids emit carbon, which is good but they also reduce our carbon emissions per capita which is.also good.

Biologically compelled to suffer a fate worse than death; maximising your child's present as the future looms threateningly over a smokey horizon. Knowing one day you'll be dead and every treat you let them taste will be replaced with the spite of knowing the cost. The final metaphor for the coming of age made real. Thankfully I raise my kids as warriors of the wastes and not in the old ways

obviously its great if you have kids, but not everybody is able to due to their personal circumstances and that's okay too. if all you can do is book an extended cruise or invite your friends with kids over for burgers on the grill, you're helping.

I mean what do y'all think the "purpose" of life is, if not self-replication? This is all just an extremely elaborate way to maximize extant copies of genes. If anything, humanity is winning the ultimate high score and then shutting the game down to make sure nobody can ever take away our #1 slot on the leaderboard, it's the perfect strategy.

we're supposed to figure out life isn't anything but a series of mistakes starting with "individuality", the moment a majority of us are of that understanding we'll poof into the next realm of existence which is the same as the one before this, and we all get to experience the vast pointlessness of everyones lives and the one soul we all are gets to sigh and go "whew, glad thats over"

hopefully 2 of the last 3 people alive will have figured it out and it wont all have been for waste

You all stumble blind upon the rocks of truth, the purpose of all life is to suffer and to attempt the impossible battle against suffering, by selflessly ending all life in the universe that has become as sentient as we, enduring eternal mara to mercifully eradicate suffering as it stirs up over and over again from the chaos of the demiurge

The purpose of a system is what it does. One could assume that nothing unusual is going on with the earth. One of the species is reproducing and consuming until it reaches the limits of it's environment, at which point dieback occurs.

Or maybe not idk. Feeling pessimistic today.
