Jesus China, chill out. Facebook's DNS servers are probably gonna be up again in an hour or so, it's not like all MILINT communication is down globally

I'm all here for this dumb social media meltdown. Outside of everyone losing their minds over not being able to post on Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, my next favorite thing is folks on Instagram celebrating their independence from evil corporate social media entities...on Twitter.

poo poo's probably gonna be fixed before the evening in US TZ, but I can't wait for the anger and tears from Euros since this hit pretty much during prime going-out hours over here.

Nevermind the actual repercussions that matter, tomorrow's social media is gonna be aflame with folks pissed they were "completely unable" to "meet up" in their bar of choice.

How hard are safety issues or poo poo like customer data gonna be affected by this? Not so much concerned about myself since I've decoupled from Facebook several years ago, but I'm kinda curious if this is gonna give malicious actors a chance to go hog wild.

Still lolling at the situation.

Going to bed now watching Sunshine, looking forward to a million posts on the morrow

Unlikely, since no one can access the data at the moment. No DNS, and more importantly no bgp routing means no one can reach the data centers.

You remember that clip of Bugs Bunny sawing Florida off to go sink in the Caribbean? It's like that - every path to Facebook's data centers is dead. The data center is a literal digital island unto itself

That is one big-rear end payment, holy poo poo. Good for the victim, get hosed, Tesla!

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-04/tesla-ordered-to-pay-137-million-for-harboring-workplace-racism

quote:

Tesla Ordered to Pay $137 Million Over Racism in Rare Verdict

Tesla Inc. lost a case against a Black former elevator operator and must pay an unprecedented $137 million in damages for having turned a blind eye to racial taunts and offensive graffiti the man endured at the electric carmaker’s auto plant in Fremont, California.

Owen Diaz, a former contract worker who was hired in 2015 via a staffing agency, was subjected to a racially hostile work environment, a federal jury in San Francisco decided Monday. The award is among the most significant verdicts of its kind.

“I believe that’s the largest verdict in an individual race discrimination in employment case,” said David Oppenheimer, a clinical professor of law at Berkeley Law. “Class actions are of course in a different category.”

Tesla’s vice president of people, Valerie Capers Workman, sent an internal email late Monday that the company subsequently published in a blog post on its website titled “Regarding Today’s Jury Verdict.”

Workman wrote she was “at the defense table for Tesla every day during the trial because I wanted to hear firsthand what Mr. Diaz said happened to him.” The post said that “the Tesla of 2015 and 2016 (when Mr. Diaz worked in the Fremont factory) is not the same as the Tesla of today.”

Hi there, would you like to try some spicy products?

I'm not so much surprised by the amounts these streamers are getting, but absolutely floored by the order of streamers earning the highest amounts.
Shroud, for example, was one of the folks (along with Ninja and other big names) to be bought out with an exclusive deal by Mixer when Microsoft decided to throw down the gauntlet, and then was offered yet another multi-million dollar payoff when Mixer folded and the userbase was "sold" to Facebook gaming, giving the big names golden parachutes if they decided to opt out of the takeover. So seeing him not even breaching 100k/month is a surprise.

I have no idea how XQC is the top earner on that list, nor any clue how he makes almost 20x of what Pokimane makes and how Ninja and Shroud are not on that list.

Also lol @ the amount of poo poo Hasan is gonna eat despite being the only one on that list living with his mom, telling his viewers to avoid ad-breaks, not streaming casino content, and making GBS threads on capitalism 24/7.

That tweet mentions that donations, sponsors and such aren't included in the payout, but should really highlight casino deals, because those have the biggest impact. On casino sponsorships and streaming deals, streamers can make 100k/month alone by streaming semi-legal (or straight-up illegal, depending on the case) gambling to their teen/pre-teen userbase.

Thats straight subscriber income isn't it? Xqc has one of the highest average view counts. Ninja didn't transition all the viewers from Fortnight. Its an absolutely brutal business.

I assume so, so straight pay-outs per month via average concurrent viewers and time-streamed, I guess. Doesn't include any metrics regarding the time-streamed as aphid licker pointed out, but it still doesn't add up in my head initially without doing the math (because lol @ actually doing any math on streamers).

Free Guy is actually and surprisingly not-over-the-top and pretty well done.

It - equally surprisingly - doesn't ham-fistedly try to be something else that's already been done ad nauseam, it just kinda does it's thing and it works as an entertaining movie.

I somehow heard nothing about it until the posts earlier today, and expected it to be a less-lovely ready player one, but it's somehow the polar opposite.

Every time in the past year where I see a news report about a container ship, I just immediately assume it's going to cause me more headaches at work in the following 4 weeks.

"What's that? They're not just late everywhere and occasionally stuck and/or sinking, they're now also on fire from time to time? Fun."

These dudes own hard.
But the reporter asking "do you think you've stumbled across something new here?" is kinda oblivious to the fact that this "concept" of having father figures on duty is old as hell, it just wasn't actual dads till now.
When I was in Auburn highschool for an exchaange semester like a million years ago, there was Mr. Brown. To this day, I'm still not entirely sure what Mr. Brown's actual occupation or job title at the school was, but he had a walkie-talkie and was always all up in everyone's business in an extremely friendly and riffy way.
I think he was some form of supervisor, but all he really was was an omnipresent dad, dropping casual one-liners, reminding you to go to class or stop screwing around, inquiring into your day, following up on <insert generic piece of information about your family or life that you didn't even think he'd remember>, and knowing absolutely everyone's name and face.

When Mr. Brown was around (and he always was), absolutely no - and I do mean abso-loving-lutely no - poo poo would go down.

I just assumed every school everywhere had a Mr. Brown employed to prevent shenanigans.
The concept was there the entire time, it just seems that no-one thought "hey, how about actual dads do this?".
