It's a new season, and there's a lot to talk about. A peek at what may be the show's new visual identity in this basic promo https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1444316240667832326?s=20 And the show is still doing table reads spaced out on the floor of 8H rather than the office up on 17. Looks like there are still dividers up in the band area, which may mean that half of the band is still cloistered away in the satellite studio 6A. The Roots are all together in 6B on Fallon, no idea what's happening here; are there band members who refuse to get vaccinated? But enough of that. Let's look at the ins and outs of S47 IN https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1442519716623372288 Sarah Sherman aka Sarah Squirm is a cool funny lady from the world. Here is a stand up set from her https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lYU_YczAc8 I look forward to many great bits in the Cut for Time graveyard on YouTube this season. Maybe she'll start getting stuff on the air in 2025 or 2027. Last night I dreamt I came in ten minutes late to the premiere (so a nightmare huh!!) and there was all sorts of crazy poo poo happening that made me think, drat they're just letting her go hog wild eh. I was incredibly disappointed when I realized I was dreaming. God it's gonna suck seeing her be wasted. But hey, it's a wild world and maybe, just maybe... https://twitter.com/thatweekinsnl/status/1442578176614363141?s=21 James Austin Johnson probably does a lot of funny poo poo idk someone posted this in the thread https://twitter.com/shrimpJAJ/status/1366170100588404737?s=20 and honestly I can't stop watching it so if he doesn't bring this impression to SNL then maybe forcibly retire Lorne?? Aristotle Athari is Greek Behind the scenes, we have a new director! Liz Patrick has been directing Ellen’s daytime show since 2004 and will be the show’s second female director, and fifth director ever. We also have I believe 10 new writers, according to Colin Jost the other night on Seth, though it's possible he may have been exaggerating! OUT Beck Bennett. Boo! But he has been there 8 years, I suppose it's time to move on. Still, would have made more sense for, say, Cecily and/or Kate and/or Aidy to move on, as they all seem to have had one foot out the door last season and honestly it's time for the show to turn over. Like, wouldn't it have been neat to have had more time for Melissa to shine over the past few years instead of the Nth Kate'n Aidy Break-Em-Up bit? https://twitter.com/thatweekinsnl/status/1442536089185517575?s=21 Not to mention that Cecily had the perfect send-off in the finale. So now we have a cast of 22 that somehow breaks last year's record-breaking cast of 20, because apparently Lorne wants to keep the same core group of players for the next few years until he takes his bowl of popcorn into the sunset after S50. By which time the cast will probably be like 28 or some poo poo. Oh, and yeah, had to get rid of dollar store Aidy Bryant, Lauren Holt. Mind you, the show cynically treated her as such, seemingly only hiring her because of Aidy's reduced presence at the start of last season. Lord knows they didn't give her any significant airtime to show what she could do. Who knows, sometimes things just don't work out. The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth though. And we bid a fond farewell to Don Roy King, the show's director since 2006, who has gone on to be the second-longest tenured director (after Davey Wilson,) and the longest consecutive run, at 15 seasons (Davey's 17 years were interrupted by Paul Miller's stint in the late 80s.) King earned 11 prime time Emmys for his work on the show, and has directed all but 19 of the show's 324 HD shows (and one anniversary special.) In fact, while he has 2 more seasons than King, Dave Wilson only has 28 more episodes on his resume (333, plus an anniversary special.) EDIT: Boy am I a big jerk for forgetting to mention that longtime producer Ken Aymong is leaving too! His first credit as associate producer in from tye S12 premiere in 1986, though IMDB says he joined in 1985. Either way, another familiar name in the credit roll no longer. And that's it! Oh wait! The guests! Well the hosts are as such: Owen Wilson - Wait, he hasn't hosted before? Nope. His brother did, back in S30, but Owen has always passed it up. So here, here are some promos you may have missed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxexY3sefD8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUXaWop9dJo Everyone else is a first-timer too, which is surprising, as Rami Malek has been a rising star for the last six years, and it's been EIGHT DAMNED YEARS since Jason Sudeikis left the show. As for Kim KW... no comment. Because I am a loving fossil, I never have much to say about the musical guests. Thankfully, Toxic Fart Syndrome does, so I'll let his rundown from the last thread do the honours: Toxic Fart Syndrome posted:Musgraves was on just before she won a Grammy for her debut album: And finally, for real this time: Vintage returns for a new season tonight, with last year's Maya Rudolph / Jack Harlow show. Because the universe may have imploded if they'd ran Norm MacDonald / Dr Dre and Eminem from 2000. Speaking of Vintage, they inexplicably uploaded this classic Radiohead performance to YouTube this week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B6FFaWMgDE And that's it! Enjoy the show tonight.

So Alex Moffat played Biden for two shows? I think that may be fewer times than Randy Quaid played Reagan and Michael McKean played Clinton.

Playing Adele's Hello while showing clips of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick is a good SNL joke that is an actual commercial.

It has been kind of hard to figure out when the SNL skits end and when the commercials start... not sure if it's genius or accidentally good bad commercials, no clue.

God i hate it when they have characters explaining what the joke is supposed to be in excruciatingly unfunny detail Imagine this sketch if the audience members weren’t talking and the writers were giving the viewers credit for understanding what the joke is.
