Boner M posted:Putting a magnet on the screen is the best bit about CRTs Dont't try this at home, CRT device owners. I did it to an old black & white TV once, and the purple splotch I created in one corner of the screen never went away completely afterwards, no matter what angle I dragged a magnet over it. frumpykvetchbot posted:I was poor so I got a factory job to save up for a hifi system. The job involved banging aluminum trays against steel bars. Gave me permanent hearing damage in mid-frequencies. Life choices. Is this a subtle way of saying you went to prison for a long time, and were old with bad hearing by the time you were released?? But seriously, if you haven't already, see a lawyer. In Australia, our government provides compensation for even decades old workplace hearing loss. In the U. S. probably not, but I imagine you could sue, with a pro bono lawyer.

Boner M posted:You reverse damage simply by rubbing the magnet over it again. That's the "theory". In practice it worked somewhat but not fully. I probably tried to fix it hundreds of times, all up, being an obsessive bastard. Don't put a magnet near a CRT screen if you don't want to severely risk loving it up. Simple.

Boner M posted:In fact it works perfectly every time. Generalising others' experience based entirely on one's own is surely one of the classic signs of pigheaded idiocy. But then you also suggested throwing one CRT monitor at another ITT, so pardon me for expecting better from you. It must be hard to think being a constant boner, taking all the blood away from the brain, which is elsewhere.

Mac and Cheese posted:drat i'm glad while you all were blasting ROCK and RAP MUSIC at FULL VOLUME i was studying the blade Yep, right re the rock, just asking for it. A heads-up to those using the tone generator website: Do read and take in board the warning on the webpage about not raising the volume high when the tone becomes high enough to be inaudible. I did this and went a bit deaf in the ear nearest the speakers for a while afterwards. Not clever.
