Massive stand-off and shootout in downtown Charlotte today that has very few details and lots of question: https://apnews.com/article/charlotte-north-carolina-shooting-police-42d3e25ec6ec990634c9ac209e0f779a 30m-1 hour of straight shooting between cops + multiple alphabet agencies and a house containing 3 people. The cops were apparently there to serve a warrant to a felon for possession of a firearm when all the shooting started. It sounds like they killed the suspect in front of the house and are saying that one of the occupants of the house then began shooting them and was responsible for most of the injuries and casualties. The stand-off ended when multiple armored vehicles rammed the house. Several miles around the house were in lockdown for hours afterwards including major interstates. Every police statement is super vague on what happened other than the limited details in some of the articles. I'm just waiting for it to

TenementFunster posted:lol the NYT piece made it sound like the cops just rolled up on some guy in his yard, and there was a brief exchange of gunfire that resulted in four dead people Yeah, there's a lot of things about the whole thing that seem really squirrely. The only "facts" that the Chief of police gave were: 1. A small group of officers went to serve the warrant on a felon for possession of a firearm 2. The suspect of the warrant came outside 3. The group of officers serving the warrant were all shot by a high powered rifle the suspect had (unclear how he wasn't shot before firing on them, why they approached him when he had a rifle, etc.) 4. The suspect was shot - not clear by who 5. When other cops went to rescue the officers who were downed, they were shot from inside the house. 6. This continued until the people in the house surrendered after many hours and many barrages back and forth They have identified no one involved but claim that no suspect escaped and the people in this house were involved in the shooting.

Say what you will about the effects of Eugene Stoner's invention of the internal gas piston operated mechanism, but it has killed a lot of cops in the last few years

So my city decided to put cops in the schools, now high school kids are getting felonies for THC vapes. The admins are just handing kids over to the cops for everything because they (the cops) have an office there now. Getting caught smoking a joint in the high school bathroom is a misdemeanor. But if it's a vape? gently caress you kids, you're all felons now (and expelled).
