There have been some good Reddit initiatives over time, despite the bad side of it. Remember many years ago when Goons use to work on a collaborative project of MS Paint cities, trains, towers, lairs etc. Reddit did this in a live version where communities got together and worked on a project within the "live" paint document and it turned out pretty cool, for example: Final version and each images meaning/history: https://draemm.li/various/place-atlas/ Time lapse video of it's pregession: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnRCZK3KjUY I know goons love to hate on Reddit, but it's not a bad platform if you choose which groups to join and filter/block the bad ones. It was a nice place to talk about Law & Order SVU/OC before Rollins started loving Carisi, the Mets before their fans decided to be more vocally insane, and Whitest Kids U Know before Trevor died and every post became about Trevor being dead. I don't know how I feel about it now.

Reddit is good to get a more generalised world view of the things I like rather than my cranky goon misery box that I feel safe and nestled in, also there are hot memes and Content However this is a website that sat on its loving arse about banning literal child porn and nazis until the communities festered and spilled out into the darker corners of the internet, bolstered by the sheer apathy of the moderators, so gently caress its history

the interface is not good yes it's a pain in the rear end trying to follow a big fast moving linear thread on a forum like this but turning the thread into a tree just makes it a million times worse, and the upvote system does not help sort threads in any useful fashion the sheer size of the site makes it good for collecting small, narrowly focused communities dedicated to very specific topics, which can be a useful resource and generally operate at a scale where the failings of the interface aren't an issue since most threads will be under 10 posts but in general, it's a really lovely interface for having conversations and an even shittier interface for cataloguing conversations for later reference
