The Lions were marginally competitive during the Caldwell years. It did take Rodgers getting hurt for them to make it to the playoffs those years, but then they Lions'ed it up.

Then Detroit thought Caldwell was not enough to get over the hump & hired Patricia.

Now they're back to being the bottom of the NFCN.

To demonstrate how much of a loser franchise the Lions are, Tom Hardy's character Eddie Brock wore a Lions jacket in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Brock is supposed to be a loser, so him wearing a Lions jacket is a nice little visual shorthand to reinforce that.

It really is remarkable how long the team has been in the Ford family, and how consistently bad they've been the entire time the family has owned it. You'd think the league would've put their thumb on the scale when WCF was getting up there in years so that he didn't die a loser, but it's nice to see billionaires not get bailed out by the system for a change.

E: if Neodoomium still posted here he'd mention how the Ford family allegedly purchased the Lions in the first place to give William Clay Ford Jr. something to mismanage that wasn't the motor company, and hell I believe it.

That's another thing. You can't feel bad for them because they willingly hired a gang rapist and then stuck with him after that. Owned by nazis, staffed by rapists. Everything that happens to them is well-deserved even if they don't win a loving game for ten years

Well, to the owners and people in power, that is. The players didn't ask for any of this and the Lions do have cool players that I really like

Give us a 7-hour history of the Detroit Lions like their Mariners and Falcons videos.

A solid hour will just be highlights of Barry and Calvin.

It'd be some high quality misery porn. But the Lions have never gotten close enough to the brass ring to really drive it home that there is a better place for the franchise. It's just miserable poo poo all the way through their history once Ford bought them.

The real tragedy is that Henry's son, Edsel Ford, was by all accounts a much better human being and businessman (Doing things like recognizing the UAW, investing in aviation, etc), but Henry refused to give up functional control of the company. And then Edsel died of stomach cancer, having spent most of the last few years of his life fighting against his father to get the company to build tanks, planes, and guns for the Allied war effort.

Henry Ford: An extremely terrible person!

But with all that said, I'm probably one of the few Lions fans that would actually prefer the Ford family to keep owning the team, if only because the current crop of failsons/daughters aren't entirely awful human beings, and imo I'd rather stick with the billionaires I know rather than risk the team get bought by someone truly awful like a Dan Snyder.

The Ravens' fastest way of regaining it appears to be Green Bay beating AZ in two weeks and then Ravens taking it from GB in week 14.
