There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Rowing!
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining, is it snowing,
is a hurricane a' blowin'?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a' glowin'?
Is the grizzly reaper mowing?
YES
The danger must be growing
for the rowers keep on rowing
and their certainly not showing
any signs that they are slowing!!!
Stop the boat.

The rule I've heard is that boats are carried by ships - but submarines as a class are boats because they used to be launched from ships.
Which makes the submarine movies someone listed more correct than some of the others - though most ship movies will also have boats.

For content, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou? I watched it when it came out, and I vaguely remember it as having troubles deciding where on the homage/parody scale it wanted to be.

I remember seeing it at a birthday party as a kid and the rest of the night we quoted "we didn't diddle nobody sir, especially your wife!" the mom didn't seem thrilled.

Absolutely. I mean, it's called that because the Germans call them U[nderwater]-boats, but that hardly matters when they're boats in English as well.

SCIENCE

"Ghost Ship" has been on AMC a bunch recently and it's pretty cool and meets the thread criteria exactly. I get that people were mad that it was more of a slasher than psychological thriller but it was still very much a neat boat movie.

There's some pretty rockin titties in there too.

I saw Ghost Ship (2002) in the theaters I remember which theater at which multiplex and where I was sitting. Middle left.

That's one of the category of movies that has an amazing beginning set piece and then the rest is a huge letdown.

Yes!

Easily one of the best horror movie openings ever, but it absolutely should have just ended here. The thought of being the little girl in that situation, alone in the middle of the ocean on a boat full of dead bodies, and then present day and how eerie it would be finding this same ship which has somehow been adrift for 40 years. But then you find it it wasn't a freak accident but rather some heist involving nazi gold or whatever, it was completely ridiculous. I think it was one of the first movies I watched that made me start analyzing them beyond "watching stuff happen" because I was so let down by it.

Just stop watching right now! It's just a story about a normal boat trip which has nothing go wrong with it!

You don't need to see the ending... it's... everything fine, just stop watching and going knowing nothing happen bad at all happened to that boat!
