there isn't really any symbolism or metaphor. it would've been impractical and boring to show, like, thousands of transactions so the wealth that is brought in by the guy's labor is compressed into diamonds and rubies and gold bars shown through a handful of transactions. that's more of an expedience dictated by the medium than a stand in for something else or a simplification of a bigger or harder concept though
