The Dems seem committed to doing nothing, so I doubt they actually care that they might lose in 2022. They'll use the loss to fundraise and as a narrative to blame Progressives. Here's the thing: not only do the Dems not care about most of the causes they supposedly champion, they can't actually solve the issues if they want to sustain their money supply and talking points. Imagine that they actually took meaningful action towards climate change, immigration reform, LGBT+ rights, etc. Not only would many of their donors be upset because of the economic implications, but it also makes the vast nonprofit industry obsolete. Why give Dreamers permanent status or even citizenship when there's ~economic activity~ to be made with nonprofit programs? Why solve climate change when you can just use it as a negative partisanship tactic to keep your more demanding voters from not voting? Much like with Republicans the cruelty is the point, with Dems the inaction is the point. They just want to keep things from getting too bad while keeping them bad enough that voters never feel secure.

I had a moment with my “AOC is a socialist and represents hope for the future” type neighbor last night where we both got to screaming about how biden hasn’t done poo poo and the democrats are losers and 2022 is going to be a bloodbath and trump is going to be president again. I even got her to admit that trump’s covid policy was better, whether or not he wanted it to be. She was instantly like “yeah it wiped out my ex’s debt and it kept me alive and indoors.” I think I had more fun with that than she did because I’m a little more accustomed to these ideas, but it was still cathartic for both of us. She was happy to vent her frustrations at someone who wasn’t going to be all “well actually biden has done a good thing plus we have to yaaassss about harri,” like most of her friends, and I was happy to hear somebody just say the thing in plain English for once. What we’re missing is the part where we do something useful with this information, but it’s rare enough to even have people agree that the information exists, so I guess I’ll take it.

I still think this is sort of on the table, but Trump needs elections to be real in order to win in 2024 and I don't think he's smart enough to sabotage the GOP in 2022 so that he can turn around and say "see? you NEED me" in 2024.
