Anal oval office now qualifies for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

Edit: Reading a list of albums released in 1996 really cements that Junior High and High School are where musical tastes really start coalescing.

Last month Guns 'n' Roses' Use Your Illusion I & II turned 30 years old. That triggered some meatpimp introspection, and I've been on that double album since.

Looking back, it was a band in its prime, in a country just starting a precipitous descent. They were simply better times, before the internet hosed everything up.

I saw the Use Your Illusion Tour, my first concert at 13. Was awesome and my ticket was a gift from a family friend. "Oh, you want to go to this? here my son can't use his tickets". It was also like 3 weeks after my mum died of cancer, so y'know, emotions and poo poo.

Easy to forget just how drat big they were at the time. At their prime, huge double album with multiple big budget epic videos (that were effectively short films), the tour was HUGE (194 shows in 27 countries) infamous for all kinds of rock n roll megastar poo poo, riots etc, plus they had a hit song on the biggest most expensive blockbuster movie of all time (up until then) with You Could Be Mine/T2. They were a juggernaut.

GnR really has a lot going for them on Appetite for Destruction. It's the combination of the 80's glam rock with unlimited budget for cocaine and guitars on a large-format analog console feeding into 2" tape and that's something that's hard to replicate these days. It's so incredibly well sounding and some tracks have insane amounts of low end that you don't always see these days. Combine that with some great musicians (even Axl, who has a pretty wide vocal range) and yeah, you get some good stuff.

I managed to snag them on their first leg of the "Not in this Lifetime..." tour. By then it was clear that Slash was the main talent and Axl was definitely over the hill, but still fun to see and not a letdown like, say, Sisters of Mercy who were waaaay over the hill.

did everyone make it through Halloween okay?

We got a surprise hoard of trick or treaters.
Last year we didn't get any and before the pandemic we had like 6. I still bought 18lbs of candy. Made goodie bags with an assortment of choices.
I only used like half the candy to make the bags because I didn't expect to have more than a couple dozen visitors.

BOY WAS I WRONG.

Kids descended on our 'hood like loving locusts.

There were dozens of groups of dozens of kids. Literally hundreds. They all showed up at once. It was CHAOS!
I was scrambling to refill our bucket with candy at the same time I had neighbors showing up asking if I had spare candy to give out.

Didn't get a single one here. Apparently my super quiet mostly-retiree neighborhood had all the families with kids drive into town for a trunk or treat thing.

Now I have candy to dispose of, so win/win.

Ugh, I switched entirely to listening to Pandora because I realized the rock station in town was still playing the same Nirvana/Alice in Chains/Soundgarden set that they were playing when I was in fuckin' high school in the 90's.

Back in NH there was one Classic Rock radio station and all the DJs were just the worst kind of ignorant Trumper Boomers who would use the morning show to complain about how their local Dunkin’ was too slow getting them a over sugared coffee because people are lazy and living off government benefits. It also had the same 10 songs on a loop.

Friday night we carved pumpkins with a jigsaw, a drill with Forstner bits, and an oscillating multi-tool. The OMT is absolutely awesome for this job.

We had a steady stream of trick or treaters from about 6:15 until it got dark about half an hour later. From then on we had maybe ten kids show up. My wife bought me a costume that was a big hit with little kids and parents. It was a chore to walk around in because of fifth-gen Camaro visibility.

I was really expecting to see some Squid Game costumes. Maybe in neighborhoods with more older kids.

I broke out the cordless to drill holes in pumpkins with my nephew a couple years ago, he was over the moon excited to do it. I got a video of him last weekend complaining that I wasn't around to do it this year, and demanding that we use power tools to carve pumpkins again next year, which was the highlight of my Halloween :kimchi:

In the garage I listen to Indie 102.3, so I can have an unexpected playlist and hear some new and local tunes. I do complain when they play obvious huge hits like Olivia Rodrigo. Then they'll play something like Da Funk by Daft Punk and all is forgiven.

https://www.cpr.org/indie/

Then in the truck I listen to 105.5 The Colorado Sound, which doesn't play as much mainstream music. I'd listen to this in the garage too but I can't pick it up.

Zillow were a small fish in that market and didn’t like the risk of owning all those homes longer than they really wanted to because they couldn’t turn them around long enough. Coupled with their pricing algorithms we’re paying over what they could expect to get for the houses which in turn was driving the prices other iBuyers were paying up as well means in the markets they operated in they could be concerned about legal issues to do with market manipulation etc…. We all know it happens but they just have admitted to it more or less and bailed out.

A friend in the same sector linked me their recent earnings. Zillow was also posting a 150mm profit EBITDA in Q3 of 2020 for the home buying segment and a 160mm loss for Q3 2021. They were also posting profits for Q1-3 for 20 and 21. So that big a swing in profit to loss is alarming and I don’t blame them for getting the gently caress out
