i don't think the direct was amazing but there was some cool stuff, it wasn't bad or anything. the japanese third party games seemed better than usual too the only real disappointment is no metroid prime 4 but i figure that's almost certainly a switch 2 launch title at this point. i guess small chance it'll be revealed at the game awards for a first half of 2024 release but that seems less likely lih fucked around with this message at 01:14 on Sep 15, 2023 |

Nodosaur posted:Kamek and Bowser Jr. are there in later installments, in Paper Jam they give more characterization to the Koopalings, and Luigi getting a proper character arc where he gets Bowser to acknowledge him by name in Dream Team after several games of being “L-stache” is worth a lot to me kamek as a distinct character is basically just a product of localisation - 'kamek' is just the japanese name for magikoopas as a species (though there is a recurring specific one in the yoshi's island series) and so the first two paper marios took the 'bowser has a magikoopa adviser' idea and gave them more individuality like they did for so many other generic mario enemies. bowser jr. didn't even exist as a character when paper mario came out. i haven't played the later mario & luigi games but the first few are not really much different to the first few paper mario games with this stuff. if the later ones do that stuff more it doesn't really surprise me though since nintendo started getting more particular about mario brand management in the 2010s with the rpgs.
