Couldn’t find a perfect thread for this but I thought it was interesting enough to want to share and this seemed the closest fit. It’s some cross between bad local media reporting, left punching, people being held responsible for not predicting the future, and courts. Anyway, a local bail fund bailed out a guy who went on to murder his wife. Really dire and sad no doubt. Bail had been set at $20,000 and they put up 10%. Who’s fault could this be? quote:“The law is permissive such that the court could choose to ask for the full sum of the bail, or not. By bailing out a suspect as a third party, you make yourself subject to this possibility,” Elisabeth Shepard from the D.A.’s office said. “We have asked that PFF pay the full bail sum, the remainder of which is $18k. It will not require a civil action, just for a judge to agree with our motion. I am not sure when that will take place at this time.” Ok. That's the loving thing about cash bail. If someone's "too dangerous to leave on the street" then it's not like a few thousand dollars is going to make them not kill anyone. The original purpose of cash bail, as an insurance against someone there'd otherwise be no reason not to leave on the street just leaving town instead of coming to their hearing, has been long forgotten in favor of bail as a punishment for being the kind of person cops arrest/a way to make crime legal for rich people.

I saw some Reddit post where a lady dug out her old high school yearbook, and pinpointed that cop as her bully who was a piece of poo poo to her then. Literally highlighting that she was an aggressive rear end in a top hat then and still is now. Goes to show you what types of people become cops.
