If a shard has any player base at all then getting your own house has always, always been a massive un-fun cluster gently caress that makes me hate even trying and eventually drives me to quit. I've always thought that for any kind of long term viability to a shard there either needs to be a land tax to discourage squatting and slum lords, or a pocket dimension housing for teeny little 8x8 poo poo shacks with no bells or whistles.
