In former times, GBS was a haven for frustrated, bitter, virgin nerds who congregated to eat the coal of pop culture and poo poo out diamond comedy. This time has mostly passed, and an army of high-schoolers and yuppies now reigns. Though there are pockets of comedy with certain threads and posters, GBS has become the most vanilla of the forums. The most interesting potential thread topics now have their own sub-forums for discussion.

A lot of goons seem to believe that 4chan is composed entirely of 13-year-old internet nerds who jerk it non-stop to hentai. While these people do make up a portion of the userbase, in truth, most visitors of 4chan are around the same age group as the visitors to the Something Awful Forums.

Like most communities that believe they are composed of "smart people acting dumb," the vast majority of 4channers are actually quite stupid. 4chan users are generally obsessed to an unhealthy degree with anime, video games, and cats and almost always have a problem applying their unrealized genius intellect to any sort of work whatsoever. Their level of humor approaches that of a four-week-old child: an idea is funny because it is familiar. 4chan user hobbies include using IRC, watching lolicon ironically, and playing Pokemon. Because posting on 4chan is anonymous, any and all thoughts are posted. If the internet is a series of tubes, 4chan is the high-pressure, poo poo-spewing junction of YTMND, GameFAQs, and every pedophile gathering in existence.

4channers are greasy neckbeards, just like us. 4chan is a swirling epicenter of internet culture, despite what everyone may think of it. Memes are born, live and die there, sometimes in just a matter of hours. Some memes will then propagate onto the internet proper to be driven into the ground elsewhere. "4chan is nothing but pedophiles" is something that gets thrown around a lot, and it couldn't be further from the truth. There probably are a number of such sickos that frequent the various boards, just as with anywhere on the 'net. Actual child pornography doesn't last long when it does get posted, usually less than a few minutes. It's reported, deleted, and the poster banned.

4chan, even though it's been a net negative on society and the internet. GBS/SA was like a invisible guiding hand in the early days of the internet.( not to say it was good either) There are still comedic gold nuggets to be found unrelated to the nazis/alt-right idiots/pedophilia drivel that makes up 90% of the site. You can usually see screencaps of these posted elsewhere so no need to go to the 4chans.

Is 4chan even relevant anymore? I thought all the chuds just migrated to reddit and all the ultra chuds migrated to 8chan. I know it still exists and people use it but so does Something Awful and I don't think anyone can say this site is really on the cutting edge these days.

there is no 'the internet'. sorry op, that's just weird corporate silicon valley spook creep stuff. The internet is a decentralized experience. Maybe one day we'll all be forced onto the same AWS server, and maybe the government will only allow us to go to one IP address, but until that day comes to pass your question is far too advanced for its time.
