Should be flown over every stadium by drones until they're shot down by missiles bought from one or more of the nations playing in the tournament.

I'd think they might be having doubts about the ROI they can expect from this tournament, but that should be chump change at this point. Increasingly seems like they're only one big sulk away from taking all the balls and going home.

vyelkin posted:They've spent like $200B on this tournament, something like 10x the previous most expensive World Cup. The economic ROI was never there, and so far they're throwing away every last bit of sportswashing ROI by failing to maintain even a facade of progress on anything except advancing the interests of the state of Qatar. On that note, one of the few new bits of information I saw in that Netflix FIFA documentary was about just how many trade deals and arms contracts and so on Qatar was signing with various countries using the World Cup as a bridge. Yeah, that's what I mean. It's an absolutely trivial amount of money compared to their overall spend so it just looks spiteful. The tournament hasn't even started and they savage the positivity team because they've not made the world love them already.

Rich people use rich people banks and they don't blink at a few mil here or there because they're used to rich people throwing millions about. Also, it's FIFA. They probably have a standard money laundering procedure and a staffer to run it.

It makes me think of when the Saudi's first bought WWE events and insisted they include a lot of half-dead pensioners in the line-up so the matches were poo poo, and then sat around the ring in huge VIP chairs visibly not paying any attention so the crowd response was poo poo. Only god knows how much more expensive.

I'm sure the however many thousand lgbtq athletes will be just fine with that. Maybe they're hoping that lodging the athletes in tents will cut down on the fuckfest? Also means either another big football tournament in the winter or playing it, along with all the other sport, in the desert summer. Everyone will love that.

The official attendance figures have had every match oversold. Thousands more people than the stadium is rated to hold. The empty seats are due them all being captivated by the concessions and watching from the bar with a cold, alcohol-free budweiser. Why would FIFA doubt their good friends at qatar?
