As someone else mentioned, Warner had some hand injury that made him extremely fumble prone during his last years with the Rams and his one season with the Giants. The gloves helped him with that. For Peyton, he knew in Denver that he’d be playing in cold weather games in December and January, so he started wearing the gloves earlier in the season to be comfortable with them later in the year, but also found they did help his grip. IIRC, he still started some of those seasons without them, but would wear them full time after a certain point.
