High gas prices are also a good thing. Good luck convincing terminally car-brained Americans if that, though.

It's not a good thing when oil companies are just using them as an excuse to roll in piles of money they'll pay minimal taxes on. Now if that money was going to taxes, sure, use it for infrastructure spending, but there's no reason $70/barrel oil should be costing people $4/gal at the pump besides oil companies loving the consumer.

Oil was $200/barrel a decade and change ago and gas was the same price it is now, maybe slightly higher. With inflation figured in, we're paying less than in 2008.

And when I say "drawn a map" I mean a rectangle with a few lines on it, because I was a middle schooler with all the map-making skill that entails (i.e., none).

This was in 2000.

The US has always been hosed up. Hopefully the kid gets help and the parents rot in jail.

I was expelled as a sophomore, mostly for being a generic troublemaker, but when I wore a duster the day after Columbine, I sealed my fate with stupidity. I was 16, so give me a little credit for having grown in the 22~ years since then.

They tried the "he has a map" angle on me but every student was given a day planner at the beginning of the school year that had a floorplan of the entire school, so their argument soared like a brick. I didn't have anything on me, just made a terrible attempt at dark humor quite literally too soon. I ended up moving to another state and wound up with a GED at the end of my junior year.

But anyhow, yes, the kid needs serious help. The parents can rot every last day of their lives in prison as far as I'm concerned.

There are already a lot of native floridians in Colorado. They're even out here in the valley, because low land prices and relatively lenient building code along with the geographical isolation that conservatives like to call a "pocket of freedom." We even have an alligator preserve up here, those billboards are basically a warning that once upon a time a Florida man settled in the valley, and the UFO watchtower a few miles from that is probably indicative to the heritage of its' owners.

You can't escape Florida, it's a state of mind. Spreading them out is the only way to dilute and maybe genetically drown out the Florida effect.

I liked Colorado Springs, to a fair extent. I do not like how it's become such a hot real estate and rental market. It has problems, but it's been a better city to me than anywhere in Tennessee.

At least out here in the valley, I can save some money. I'll probably buy land in '22, and start building in '23, hopefully incorporating hempcrete and geodesic domes. There's not a lot of anything here, but it's dark, quiet, and there are wild horses. Also maybe aliens, it's the UFO spotting capitol of the country.

Oh, they definitely have a lot of chuds, but compared to places like Nashville and Memphis, it's practically liberal. Though working in the weed community there probably tilted my perspective of the city.

There are nicer parts of town where the chud presence is pretty minimal, but the suburbs (Fountain, Security-Widefield, Falcon, etc) are chudded out to the extreme. Manitou and parts west of I-25 are probably the ideal lib/left friendly part of town, but is infected with gentrifiers and expensive as gently caress. It's basically anti-Boulder, more conservative than liberal, but still beautiful enough to not let politics become the dividing wedge.
